I'm assuming you are male. Watch movies like "she said". Its hard for us males to understand that 8 to 12 women had been harassed or sexually assaulted by Weinstein and yet they were all scared to come forward. They didn't think they'd be believed or never work again etc. This included some of the most powerful woman in Hollywood. Even powerful women combined who were in the right thought one man committing crimes had more power.
As for not becoming world class if you go to a coffee shop when you want. I'd bet Bolt went to a coffee shop whenever he wanted.
100%. How many very promising young athletes left the group in total silence, many injury plagued and more than one prematurely quitting the sport. Only departure who has said anything at all took two years to say anything negative and only then that was on a podcast where she was asked if her current coach was controlling and she compared Schumacher favourably to Young.
Speaking from experience from the Glasgow athletic community - Laura and Jemma might be the most high profile individuals to have (now publicly) suffered from Young's controlling nature, but they are just the last in a long line of athletes. I think that's the last of his athletes gone now which is pretty mad to think about given how big and deep his group looked in 2019-2020.
Notice that zero people form the Scottish or UK track community, no coaches, no former athletes, no media personalities, are sticking up for him. Radio silence right now.
People grow apart. The best coaches become like another family member. Almost like a marriage and 50% of those end in divorce. Coaches take athletes for granted and athletes do the same with coaches. The problem with any divorce is that the athletes always feel like they need to go public with their stories and this means we are only hearing one side of the story.
But "growing apart" is not something that results in "getting on the next plane" out of there. It is weird how sudden it was.

To be fair, Muir and Reekie have been with Andy for ages and probably didn't know that not all coaches were as controlling as he was, or at least it probably took more time for them to figure it out. Especially if it's all behind the guise of running faster. With all the success they (particularly Laura Muir) had, it's not surprising that they put up with (or played down) the behaviour for so long.
I expect this will be the tip of the iceberg, so-to-speak, and that we'll hear a lot more before it's done.
There's nothing to figure out when Laura looks at her trophy cabinet. There has to be a regime and in this case that regime (if that is the right word) has brought huge success. There's no "guise" here, the results speak for themselves. Obviously I don't know the full story but I do know the results and the records.

There is nothing to be confused about. By all means a person can go to a coffee shop whenever they want and don't let anyone tell them differently, but they're not going to become a world class athlete, smashing records everywhere.
🤔 I'm dying to know what happens at coffee shops that will become a barrier to world class performances?

Make it Make sense.
Considering caffeine is a common supplement for athletes and food coffee is the best delivery method it makes no sense.
It also makes no sense that grown people rely on other adults to give them permission to go to a coffee shop.

I feel like one of the worst things in elite athletics is the ability of coaches to manipulate athletes through their high motivation and drive to be the best, along with a human need for belonging and this is one of those examples. I agree that it doesn't make a lot of sense, but it happens in sport, in religious cults.. I mean..NEXIUM lol. It seems easy to say, "I'd never do that" or "whyd they let that happen?" But it's also easy to see that it actually happens a lot and it happens bc we are human.
