Tuohy is showing up to win and get an NCAA qualifier. Wiley is showing up to try and beat other top collegians and see where she really stacks up since she chose to run NAIA.
Tuohy is in the mile race for a tune up and speed-check race for the 3000m race at Millrose. Tuohy will not be running another mile race.
Not really sure why anyone is talking about Katelyn Tuohy chasing a record. She has spent her entire college career focusing on actually learning how to race well not just chasing records. This is something so many elite runners don't take the time to learn. Tuohy will jump in this race and focus on being in a good position to take the victory off a pace fast enough to hopefully get a second qualifier for NCAA indoors (her 5k time will get in). She'll get another qualifier at Milrose in the 3k and then have the opportunity to choose 2 races between 3 or 4 events (pending a fast DMR) to race at NCAA indoors. The goals are a NCAA qualifier and a win. No one is thinking about a record.

So true. Records are just a bonus for her. It's crazy how posters here are so obsessed with records but not winning.
Winning is always the main goal. Chasing records means chasing time and focusing on how to achieve that without actually taking time and effort to learn how to properly race which is the most basic skill you have to have in order to win races.
No American goes racing internationally to break a record, not happening!
Tuohy is smart, and she has evolved into a really good racer. Yes she has a very strong finishing kick but she can outkick you from the gun too like the ACC 1500m race, she can also lead, sit, and then kick like the NCAA 5000m. She can also let someone gap her by 12 seconds and then reel that runner and win. See how her race wins are not the same? It was won in different ways, different tactics. That's is something she has acquired in college. In high school, Tuohy ran everything like how Valby runs in college. I'm glad Tuohy matured and improved. Her races are more fun to watch now then before.

Agree w/ both of you:
Even though kt's real options are 5k/3k and dmr/3k, I still think they would like a qualifying time in the mile. Typical cut off 4:35, in for sure at 4:32.
She is under raced and chomping at the bit to go fast, so I'll go with 4:29 and a win.
With Millrose 3k, Camel mile and BU 5k that might be it til acc for fast running. NC st will do some dmrs, and she will continue tradition of pacing teammates in a few races.
Usatf in July??? No inside info, but I guess they will follow the 2021 plan. As she is not yet a podium threat, they will attend and run low key and then focus on '23 xc. Only if she posted something crazy like 3:59/14:50 in the spring, would they really focus on usatf.

Makes sense. If she anticipated rolling into 4:27 shape, she'd make it count at the NB Grand Prix, not Camel City.
Apparently they decided to run this race based on a single 1200m workout. Before that she did not think she had enough speed work to run in a high profile pro race. Amazing how it worked out, and now she gets time before Millrose.
She should run the mile. I think she would win. Nielsen will get the win without her. And Tuohy won't win DMR or 3000. Henes doesn't make the best decisions.

I am a Roe fan, but I think MCCabe, Markezich and Valby may be bigger threats to Tuohy this season in the 3k. Mccabe just threw down 4:31 mile, and has run 8:50 3k. We will know more after Tuohy runs Millrose too. That said I would never count Roe out.
Agree Stanford can probably win the DMR if they run both Willis and Whittaker.

Going forward, to what degree will World Athletics ranking points factor into her racing decisions? Race for trophies and fun with the team or fly solo and boost the WA ranking when opportunities exist....
