Why people hating on Hocker? Talented young Runner who seems like a good guy!!!

I thought the shush was partly given over the whole "your move" drama from a few months back. When viewed from this angle, I can see how the shush is in bad taste. Centro has nothing to prove here -- his real test will be at the Olympics. So why does Hocker do the shush now instead of waiting for the Olympics? With that being said, I personally thought the shush was harmless and that the two have a friendly rivalry between each other. It is obvious that they respect each other, and I doubt that there was ever any real drama between them.

Hocker just beat the Olympic champion. If Hocker is even with anyone over the last 100 meters he can win. I don’t see how you could deny the possibility of that. Since he just beat the Olympic champion. The question is, will he be there with 100 to go? The last Olympics was a 3:50 race. If Hocker’s kick was in that race he may have won. If it’s a sub 3:30 race maybe not. But then again. He ran a 3:50 mile indoors. My guess is that he can run with anyone in the world, but a sub 3:30 pace will be alien to his leg speed at the end, he couldn’t get past his teammate in the 3:50 race. I think the field will be keying off of Jakob, who always starts at the back or mid pack and this is going to slow the race down. I certainly wouldn’t want to leave the race to a kick with Hocker in the mix. Smart thing for Jakob would be to make it a sub 3:30 race.

A million things could happen, Jakob could fall, etc. Hockey has a chance to win. Slim, but a chance.

The average winning time the previous 10 Oly 1500m's for men has been 3:36.6 (3:35.5 if you exclude 2016). The historical (since 1908) median time has been 3:39.2 to win. It was a *very* slow and atypical final.

The Olympic champion was in 2016. It's 2021. Centro is probably not even a favoured contender himself this year.

Centro wasn't a favorite in 2016 either, he got perfect position in a slow race, and had speed to hold everyone off the last 400.

Questions for Hocker. How will he handle rounds? Should be ok, he's handled some tough doubles over NCAA season.

Can he kick in a fast race? He has kicked in slow races, and medium races. No one, even in his losses has really run the kick out of him. Fast race more likely to tow him to PR than leave him with no close.

Hocker (and Nuguse) are by no means favorites, but if they navigate their way to the final, they can surprise.

You are right: Anyone who forgets Hocker's 3:50 is an idiot, but so is anyone who forgets John Gregorek's 3:49 AR a 2019. Great things were predicted for him. So far, none of them came to pass.

Hocker is unique. He is doesn't fit any of the usual profiles. At this point, it's impossible to say how he's going to turn out. This uncertainty is driving people nuts.
