loosing those claws would have probably saved a bit of time or that 8 feet of hair.

This is excellent. Bumping for page 5 crew
Why don't javelin throwers spin? If it's good enough for the shot, and hammer, why not?

I’ve got Gatlin down by about 0.03-0.05 at first white line (40m?) and 0.08 down at 90m. Kerley’s RT was 0.05 better than Gatlin’s, indicating to me that their actual post-RT run time was roughly even in first half of the race and Kerley put 0.03-0.05 on him in the intervening 40-50m. His peak 10m time is thus probably at or below 0.01 faster than Gatlin’s for the race.
(I’m ignoring the increased lead by Kerley in last 10m - no idea what Gatlin’s big braking step did to his time).
Gatlin’s run looked a lot like his run in Tokyo last weekend. The problem is that Kerley’s harder to run down from behind than Shuhei Tada.
Other than 2015, Gatlin generally improves his start the most through the season. I expect that first 40 to get progressively faster
Agree with all this, but IMO his start deficiency here was caused by travel fatigue. He even looked to have popped up from the blocks at a distinctly bad angle, which limited the early acceleration possible. He didn't get back down and drive, and as a result his drive was very short because he was already "up and running".
I haven't looked closely at his JPN race, but this one was a disaster. He's too good, and too disciplined for that to happen unless he is very tired or sick. He must have gotten paid A LOT to have run in JPN.
And ADG, man, he had no effort to put into it--I'm talking solid force, not just swinging the limbs.
This was a throw-away race for both Gatlin and ADG--BUT Kerley still nailed it, wtf. Doing THAT shows me that he really is for real, but he still needs a ton of work--and he still won, in a really good time. Running 10-flat in these conditions, with that form, shows that he had discovered something.
When does 3k start?

Does that sound safe, or more effective than a run up to you.

Working for me, thanks!

Looser "claws" would cost more time - it would be less aerodynamic.
After the run-up has begun and until the javelin has been thrown, the competitor shall not at any time turn completely around so that his/her back is toward the throwing area.
NOTE: This rule is intended to avoid rotation as part of the throwing motion or as part of the run-up. This rule does not prevent a competitor who has interrupted an attempt and walks back to initiate another attempt.

If Kerley is thinking rationally, he has to realize that sub10 speed in the 100 gives him a very very decent chance at 42.98 or faster in the 400. If he sticks with the 100, he’s certainly got a chance with the Olympic team and, perhaps, a medal if he catches all the right breaks. But he’s not setting a WR there and there’s a higher degree of uncertainty as to gold

LOL!
Javelin rules state that you are not allowed to turn your back to the throw line during your run up

2 THE GILLS!!!
It's ALL ABOUT the hair and nails.
Lots of chicks have a keratin fetish.
Although, her wig is probably something like modacrylic, nylon, or polyester. :^)
Fantastic run for Bednarek, but not so good for Kerley. Are there ever sprinters who excel at the 100 and the 400 but can't quite make them meet in the middle (not that I think Kerley can't eventually run a 19.8, just wondering)
Could someone watching post live splits in this thread?
