I know from a reliable source she was offered $150,000 from Nike, and she wanted $250,000 from them. Maybe she was on less with Nike in 2020 and prior, and the 3x value equates to more than what Nike offered? It still seems very unlikely Lululemon has the money to pay more than $150,000, let alone $450,000.

Wow, some people really don't understand how endorsements work. Quigley backed herself, figured out her worth and it paid off big style. Athletes are a long time retired and need an alternative career for the next 30 years of their lives. Duane Solomons is a prison officer now, most end up coaching high school like Jeremy Wariner. Quigley looks like she's setting herself up for a post-athletic career while she's still at her peak.

I'm rooting for her. Nike and Adidas hold way too much influence over athletics, there needs to be more brands to make a engine market.

Btw, I love Rojo's idea that cutting Quigley saves Nike money to spend on Nuguse or Hocker. The idea that Nike is concerned about $200k here or there is laughable. It's chump change for Nike, they probably spend more than that on a leaving party for some mid-level manager. If they thought Quigley was worth it, they'd stump up whatever they had to. But when you're a brand that relies on global stars like LeBron and Serena, you don't need domestic talents from minor sports. For Lululemon, an engaged pro can help build the brand

I don’t think Lulu cares about her running nearly as much as Nike. It’s a lifestyle brand with a consumer base of housewives. Many do not even run, and those who do are running 9—10 min miles. Again, she’s a model and will look good in their clothes. She also has a strong social media presence.

She will bring in buyers, and that’s all they care about. She will look great on the track, even if she finishes 5th or 6th. She will post countless IG pics of her in various Lulu gear. No way they are paying her less than $150K.

Confirming I'm hearing $350k/year which is on-par based on market. Think about how New Balance is currently losing big on Jenny Simpson (seven figure deal, largest women's deal for NB until Sydney McLaughlin), Brenda Martinez ($160k) and McGee ($150k).. but making it back on Coburn and Purrier.

New Balance is still sponsoring Kim Conley, they clearly have money to burn.

As for Quigley, whatever she is making with Lulu is less than what Nike was paying her on her last contract. We know this unequivocally because she absolutely would have said that Lululemon is paying her more than Nike did. She would have gloated about it. She did not say that, she said 3 times more than their best offer for this new contract. If you recall, Alliyson Felix said Nike wanted to pay her 70% less than her previous contract. Quigley is no Allyson Felix, so I am absolutely sure they offered her less than that. If they offered her 75% less; let's use 100K as her previous contract since it's a nice round number; 75% less would be 25K. If Lulu paid her 3 times more than that it would equal 75K, which is still less than what she was getting before. There is zero chance that Lulu is paying her more than her original contract with Nike. It's not only possible, but highly probable that Nike offered her a mere fraction of what she was making before. If they would reduce Felix by 70%, they would easily reduce Quigley by more. She is not making 350k, that's a whole lot of carrots! No way, no how!

Err, so, you need to remember that Quigley was probably on $100-150k with Nike. Allyson Felix was probably the biggest star in American athletics, she would easily have been making seven figures at her peak - she has more global golds than any other T&F athlete in history. If they reduce Felix by 70%, she's still getting at least $300k, which is double what Quigley was offered. So yeah, it makes sense to try and reduce Felix (at least from a monetary POV, it's dumb in a whole load of other ways), it saves serious money. Reducing Quigley by that proportion saves almost nothing and also puts her in a bracket where it becomes difficult to live day-to-day without getting an additional job

You have no idea about how this works. It's not about reducing people to save money. They cannot have a subpar, nonperforming athlete making the same amount as when they were performing. Life doesn't work that way. When your contract says run 10 races and you only run 8, you get reduced. When you say the spikes you wear suck, you get reduced. When you get injured every 5 minutes and cannot run at Worlds, you get reduced. That's how it works. Good for her that she found someone willing to pay her to be a clothes hanger, it's what she does best, but the point is that she IS NOT making what Nike was paying her when she was actually an athlete. She has other endorsements for various products that earn her some cash so she will be fine. My issue is with professional athletes complaining about performance based contracts when they are in a performance based sport. It's completely delusional and downright stupid! That's like the loser of a boxing match bitching about not getting the same amount as the winner. As an athlete, she's not worth anything. As an Instagram, I'll endorse anything as long as I get paid narcissist... priceless!

Lol, you have no idea how endorsements work at all. Contracts are won based on market value. Why do you think Rupp has had a better shoe contract than Kipchoge for most of his career? As a white, American runner-up, he's worth more to Nike than an African World Record holder, multiple major marathon champ, and Olympic and World gold medallist. Performance counts for a lot less than you think.

You can complain about this all you want, but the simple truth is superior athletes often get paid less than mediocre athletes. You just sound out of touch with the real world.

And FYI, the loser frequently takes home a larger share of the purse in boxing. Purse splits are decided before the bout with the bigger name taking the most because they bring in more PPV revenue. Again, performance counts for less than market value.

Also see the Forbes list of the best paid people in sport. So many haven't troubled the top end of their sport in years - Federer, Sebastian Vettel, Kei Nishikori, Rory McIlroy, Connor McGregor. All trading on former glories but all worth top endorsements
