Agreed. Grant could never make it in the NFL. Football is the global standard for athleticism for it combines 4 key components:

1) physical strength - tackling, running, throwing

2) speed

3) mental acuity - memorizing plays, positioning

4) endurance - NFL games run for hours on end with almost constant play time. I firmly believe that every player in the NFL can comfortably run a sub-5 minute mile.

Acknowledging that Grant would probably be ~average speed in the NFL, what of the above skills has he demonstrated ???

This is beyond ridiculous.

1. Holloway has run 6.50 in the 60m. Faster than ANY pro football player EVER in the history of the NFL. He is part of the NCAA 4x100m relay collegiate record.

2. If professional football players and athletes from other sports are considered world class, there is no demarcation that excludes T&F athletes from this assertion.

3. If DK and Tyreek are world class athletes because of their football speed(40 yards dash), if another person shows superior speed to those athletes, then by the semantics the other person is at least equal to the first claim of world class athlete. Now, if the term world class athletes means speed + strength then that must be identified.

4. What does world class speed(athlete) mean? That has never been identified. Does it mean a athlete can run 10.10? Does it mean an athlete can run 20.20? Does it mean an athlete can run 44.50? Does it mean 6'4, 230, 4.40?

No football player has had spikes made for running fast, performed on a perfect track, in perfect conditions. Please our nations best athletes don’t do track, there is no money in it and no one cares. NFL speed isn’t as fast on page but take into account these guys don’t train for this. They also are way to built=extra weight for running fast. They are faster if they wanted to be.

Honest question, you think with training some NFL players couldn't be world class sprinters with some training? I think they could be for sure.

If any of them have 10 flat in their background then perhaps. But it takes a lot of discipline to race well over 100m.

Tyreek Hill one of those mentioned the thread, has a 10.19 from a while ago. Slower than the HS kid last year.

Besides the obvious, Hayes, Nehamiah, Lamb Jones etc, there are few who could be great sprinters. Deon Sanders was close. But not close enough.

There is a 100 yd video with T H giving an old Terrel Owens a 5 yard start and couldn't catch him. In fact TO held him th elast 30.

Running a great 40 is ok, but its not sprinting at a wc level. Its not even with a starter's gun.

Holloway can jump higher, jump further, and run faster over any distance than Lebron or anyone else in the NBA. Probably all by significant margin.

Track doesn't require much hand-eye coordination or quick decision making, but if those traits made world-class athletes then I think pro Starcraft players should be in the discussion as much as Tom Brady.

As for strength, I honestly have no idea how much a world class sprinter lifts compared to an NBA, NFL, or pro soccer player. I'd guess a lot less than NFL and maybe similar to NBA on a body-weight basis?

Bob Hayes, Sam Graddy, Ron Brown would all smoke Holloway in a 100m.

And there are world class speed walkers, world class dart throwers, world class pool players, etc etc etc.

As stated before he was a top 10 percentile football Recruit and obviously insane at the track

Would he have worked out in the nfl who knows. But he definitely seems to enjoy track and it appears to be a passion so I'm glad he chose it. With his example especially it's a dumb comparison considering his actual football chops

The OP is a tool. Hurdling at an incredibly high level is an extremely technical and athletic skill. Taking approximately 1.2 seconds to run 10 meters while also jumping over a 42" barrier and repeating that action 10 times is incredible. Propelling yourself almost 27' in the air is another phenomenal skill, combining a very athletic movement in the air and perfecting an optimal landing after running 40m at a level of speed that very few in the NFL could attain. To demand that athletic skill requires hand-eye coordination eliminates soccer players, among the most recognized athletes in the world. Grant Holloway should celebrated and not diminished.

The OP is a fool at the same high level that Grant is a world class athlete.

Football players wear track spikes at the combine when they run the 40 so you are wrong in talking about equipment. A previous poster said that Grant wouldn't be good in football because he's too thin. Have you seen pictures of receivers, defensive backs, and running backs before they started lifting for their sport? If Holloway played football, he wouldn't look like a hurdler/jumper. He'd carry another 20 pounds. It's scary the level of ignorance of some of the posters on this thread. There are many athletic skills and no sport combines every single skill. Don't go overboard with the endurance of football players. In a 1 hour game, played during a span of 3 hours, there is approximately 22 minutes of actual play, and football players are only on the field for half of that, depending on their offense or defense position.
