Absolutely right. Summer is Ethiopia is the worst season to train. It's dark, rainy and windy all summer. On the other hand, the weather is literally perfect for distance running in the winter. According to wikipedia source, the rainy day average in Addis in July is 27/31 days, with a relative humidity of 78%, and an average sunshine of 3.6 hours. Ethiopians have numerously complained about this in interviews.

Take the pandemic and the civil state of the country right now, I can't imagine. I would totally understand why some Ethiopians are either not fit or wouldn't want to go. These people have lives and families. It goes deeper than just jumping on a plane to go race a 5k.

If true, smart move by Koko. She knows its going to be a sweatfest in that humid weather on Friday with no one going under 14:45. Saving herself for good conditions and a fast time.

Do you think Wightman can PR with 2 seconds in the 1500m?

To get to sub 3:30 he needs less than a 2 second PR. I'd give 30% chance of it happening but I don't think its out of the realm of possibility as you seem to think.

This will be like Christmas! The strong fields have certainly exceeded my expectations. I'm practically tearing up in anticipation of the meet after all that we've been through.

It is not too late to order NBC Sports Gold (about $10 per month) so that you can watch this on re-run at your leisure. The presenters are always first class (English, of course).

This has been a long drought, despite the excellent performances out of Portland.

Expect to see a bit of rust but who cares? The athletes have placed themselves at risk to entertain us and we should be grateful.
