Torres ran 3:59 in 2005 just like Steve Slattery actually has a black belt.
Steve has a black belt in fat face
And has ascended to the lofty heights of ‘volunteer assistant’

Loving this quote:
“At the time, [On] didn’t have a spike out, didn’t have a carbon shoe,” Klecker says. “And I was on a video call with the owner and founder, Olivier, and he basically reassured me that they’re gonna develop spikes based off our input and carbon shoes. By building this group, yes, they want to have top track athletes, but they want to use us to develop the best product they can.”
Oh damn, they are going to just "make carbon shoes"! Nike spent 5 years developing /perfecting the vaporflys (and locking down the IP) then a 3 tier marketing company that also sells shoes is going to "tech bro/bro science" their way to this, by way of a video call. It just seems so 1/2 baked .
Please go see their "race shoe" section.

I hope this group does well, but their shoes are garbage. Pure trash. The little bubbles in the soles look cool but they actually makes you run slower. They are not durable either. They need to end that dumb gimmick and just work on making good strong basic shoes.

It is a lot easier to copy existing designs than innovate. Just buy some nikes, dye them different colors and replace the emblem......
Shoes have always had elements of bro science (remember the air pockets, gel pads, hydroflow and the rest of 80s/90s innovations). Figuring out where that ends and actual improvement is pretty hard. I wouldn't be surprised to learn that a bunch of these 3rd rate carbon shoes actually slow you down.
Klecker is a star. Will run mid-2:07 for a marathon within eight years.
how is he getting a coaching job but derrick thompson who has had 4 women in the top 10 in the world in the lqast 10 years has not ?
6xmile on 3:00 at 4:21 pace is not much slower than Rupp's famous workout after an indoor race, except that Rupp closed it at 4:01 after running the reps at low 4:20s/high 4:10s. However, this was at altitude. To apply the mile conversion, it would be at 4:15 pace, but that's not really fair since it was just about the distance of a 10k and that fatigue of reps factors in. If we use the 10k conversion for Boulder, then we get about 57-60 seconds, which we divide by 6.2 to get about 10 seconds per mile.
In other words, this was not too dissimilar from running 6xmile at 4:11 pace at sea level. Assuming they were actually 1600s, not miles, make that 4:13 pace. Klecko needs to get in some fast time trial style races in cool weather soon to take advantage of this. He is in 13 flat/low 27 shape.

Rupp also ran a 8:07 2 mile 15 mins earlier. Personally I think you are better off with the mile conversion. I don't think oxygen is as much of a limiting factor for recovery as it is for running at pace. I seriously doubt he shows up and can run 6x1600 at 4:11 pace at sea level.
But who cares about stuff like that. If he can't show up and. run a 13:10/27:20 off a workout like that, he is training too hard. And those times would be huge breakthroughs.
They're top-priced shoe, the "carbon-fiber infused" racing flat (Cloudboom) looks a lot less "ON-like" in the sole design of the forefoot section. They may realize that they have to start morphing their flawed design into something that is functional but do so without losing their identity too abruptly to hope that by doing it slowly they can save face.

Because TME gets so much attention among runners and On basically doesn't? DeKoker is clearly insanely jealous of the attention TME generates for Adidas with so little investment from Adidas. It's not like DeKoker exactly signed Grant Fisher and Dani Jones, either. Maybe Klecker will beat Hunter at the OT, but the rest of them aren't exactly world beaters in the making. Whenever On is mentioned on these boards, the majority of comments are on how poorly the shoes perform. At least they're popular with the yoga and Pilates chicks for their styling? I'm guessing they're failing in run specialty.
Hoare and Beamish each have a NCAA title and Monson was dominant, I was fairly impressed with that list of names. Who else would you have been more impressed with? Weini has eligibility I think and on the guys side Kurgat or one of the Alabama seniors maybe but beyond them Seufer? Day seems like NAZ would be his destination
Signing people simply because all the other shoe brands essentially have no money doesn't automatically vault them above TME, despite dude's sh!t talking. Winning a national title or making a national team for any of the athletes puts them on roughly the same level. Maybe they're all a bunch of sleepers who will be in the medal hunt in Tokyo, I could very well be wrong in fact I hope so. Right now, I just don't see it as significantly different from Brooks Beasts, which DeKoker would have overseen previously.

I would say the Brooks Beasts are good company to be in. Outside of Bowerman and the former NOP what other clubs have had that level of success? OTC elite or Hansons? I think On has a pretty strong starting point with that talent all coming out in one class. Will they make a big splash at the Trials next year? Unlikely although maybe some of them wind up on their countries teams for the Olympics which would be a win.
2 years ago Coach Fox started a training group with Justyn Knight. This was huge news at the time that was going to change the industry.
Coach Fox was an established college coach with proven success. Much more experience than Ritz.
Justyn Knight was more successful than Klecker as a collegiate in the same events.
Reebok Boston has proven to be just another training group.
The initial story was bigger than the results have been.
Why?
Because Reebok just like ON will never sell enough product to move the needle and will eventually disappear.
Just wait and see.

A straight up Syracuse alumni team.
Not a Trials finalist on the roster.
Dathan’s really throwing his guy out there by suggesting he can run sub 13. I will be very pleasantly surprised if he’s right.
