I don't have a list but just the last 2 days has seen a wave of GOPers brave enough to go against the GQP current and go public for vaccines.
grassley, rubio, desantis, mitch, tuberville, scalise, hannity, stefanik have all come out as pro-vaccine.
no question in my mind the GQP is polling disastrously on its anti-vaccine past and now they are trying to change the script. Which is good. That's how democracy is supposed to work. Have to think being anti-vaccine and pro-sedition will hurt the repubs in midterms.
And the real hardcore trumpers will be turned off by this pro-science, pro-public safety flip flop, which should help the Dems.

It's interesting that Mitch McConnell has been strongly pro-vaccine from the start. This past weekend, I found out why.

My parents from Kentucky were visiting and I took them to Warm Springs, GA. They are both former Trump supporters, but got off the train on January 6th. Anyway, we toured the "Little White House" where FDR often lived as a retreat and a place to get treatment for polio. You can also tour the polio treatment center he established where patients could benefit from the natural hot springs.

My father said, "I remember getting the polio vaccine in grade school. Nobody questioned it and that vaccine saved millions of lives. And you know what else? Mitch McConnell had polio when he was a kid."

It turns out Mitch was also a polio patient at Warm Springs. Mitch saw first hand how a disease like polio can be so devastating to so many. And he knows very well the blessings of vaccines and the suffering it alleviates.

Getting the paper this morning, a pickup truck drove by with a large American flag flying from the bed. Assuming that I know what that flag was a proxy for (and I do), there are simply too many of those people in this country. Not much we can do about that, unfortunately. Except: "D leaders (and whoever else) to voters - 'VOTE !!!!!!!!!!!!!'"

Not disagreeing.
But to think that these people need Trump (or anyone else) to tell them what to do is so pathetic that it is painful to witness.

True. It is pathetic, but Trump is their leader and they do what he wants.

Think what would have happened if Trump won. He would be encouraging everyone to get the shot and would be claiming that he single handedly saved millions of lives. And it that case, he would not be completely wrong. Our adult vaccination rate would be close to 90%.

But as it is now, vaccination makes Biden look good. Trump would rather see his followers die than let Biden look good.

As Swalwell explained, the Rs are in the business of pro wrestling. Politics is a reality TV competition to them. They put on their show for the public and then laugh at them when the camera is off. This is just part of the show. They follow trump because he is the undisputed king of grifting on the right. They know his antics attract mouth breather cash and they don't want to miss out on the action. Re vaccinations, this is just for them to try to claim credit going into 2022. Expect showers of praise for trump's miracles as he begins his redneck tour.

Agip, the D's apparent inability to play a good political game has also always baffled me. Lately, I have started to believe much of it has to do with the fragmented nature of left-leaning media. The left does not enjoy a unified front in radio or television. Pelosi can call up her circle and coordinate messaging, but it usually hits the public like a shotgun spread. Meanwhile, when trump and his minions or T-neck/McQ wish to spread a lie there is basically a single line and direct line to the mouth breathers' ears. Their apparatus is more effective. However, I do think they are seeing some cracks via Newsmax and OAN. They are fragmenting the potency and quality of the messaging. The right is not only relatively smaller than they were 5 years ago, but they are also more divided in their belief system.

Well, if you're not Neanderthals, of course you don't. And while they're dumb, they're not THAT dumb, and they've been well-trained/programmed. The main problem is that there are far too many Neanderthals in this country. Way, way more than what I thought before Trump. Politics mostly bores me, and I'm glad that I don't get paid to TRY to figure such things out, but....I'm not sure that there is a whole lot you can do about convincing Neanderthals. As mentioned many times, I suspect that all you can do is continue to try to chip away at the saner fringes of the Neanderthals. But not sure how far that goes, and as also mentioned by others, I don't think that the Ds are displaying nearly enough energy or urgency about it.

Bumping this excellent post. Yes, chip away and motivate/demotivate... that's all you can do. It's important to note there is some Neanderthal variety:

- Those who may not actually be Neanderthal but pretend to be in order to profit from Neanderthals. This makes up a tiny % - think the ultra wealthy and political leaders on the right

- Pure hard-headed stone throwing Neanderthals. I've known plenty of conservatives and deep down I think this is a vast majority of them. They can be cordial and seemingly morally sound people but it's rather easy to convince them that their neighbor is out to get them and should be destroyed.

- Mildly rational Neanderthals who are just lazy and don't care. These types, if they tried, could rather easily understand the problem set, but they prefer to be oblivious and just go along.

I certainly agree that there are variations, and using "Neanderthals" for ALL of them is at least a bit lazy and inaccurate.

I often think of a 4th group, perhaps most closely related to your third group. I know at least a few, and suspect many of you do, too. Well educated, seemingly decent (very likely appear to have raised kids very well), actually ARE somewhat interested in current events, politics, etc., but have SOMEHOW managed to keep believing that the distasteful things they see on the left are STILL worse than Trump and Trumpism. Really don't get it.

Way back when, I thought (and hoped) that this group would EVENTUALLY be significantly eroded, as Trump said/did stupid/dishonest thing after thing after thing. But it never added up NEARLY as much I thought. Hence my incredibly low view of my country, now.

Democratic voters are also more fragmented people. They are not united by the common tribal identity like Republican voters are. So it is harder to push the button to trigger their fear, anger and hatred, because different Democrats are triggered by different buttons.
