So here's the final for the men's 1500m. Imagine seeing this one year ago - you'd really wonder what on earth happened!
Josh Kerr 🇬🇧
Jake Wightman 🇬🇧
Niel Gourley 🇬🇧
Timothy Cheruiyot 🇰🇪
Reynold Cheruiyot 🇰🇪
Niels Laros 🇳🇱
Andrew Corcoran 🇮🇪
Samuel Philström 🇸🇪
Jonah Koech 🇺🇸
Adrian Ben 🇪🇸
Isaac Nader 🇵🇹
Tshepo Tsh*te 🇿🇦(lol have to censor because of profanity filter)
Robert Farken 🇩🇪
I hope I am not the only one really excited about this! Without Jakob or Yared, the tactics could be totally different here, in something we haven't seen since 2016. Could Tim go back to frontrunning the way he did when he dominated from 2017-19? Or will he trust his kick now that he trains with Laros?
The tactics of the field could be very different AND the personnel are very different. You've got arguably half the field as more 800m/1500m runners: Wightman, Laros, Koech, Ben, Tsh*te, and Farken!
Going into worlds, I was thinking we'd have a 3:29 or faster race where a long train of people hang on for dear life and some combo of Kerr, Hocker, Jakob, Laros, Phanuel Koech and Jonah Koech make the podium. Now I have no idea what's gonna happen, and someone even as sharp right now as Laros could make an error and end up 5th or something!
Yes, I'm bummed Strand and Hocker and Jakob didn't make the final, but Jakob wasn't fit, Strand was inexperienced and wasted energy mid-race, and Hocker was impatient and was rightfully DQed, so none of them deserved it.
Can't wait for this final, so many guys in here are easy to root for imo. So I'll be happy if pretty much anyone other than dbag Josh Kerr wins.
In his post race interview Tim said he thinks the final will be tactical, so I’d be surprised if he takes the lead early

I don´t think Tim can go low 3:29 by front running anymore.
I think Strand not advancing would have been big news if not for the Hocker DQ mess. Strand seemed to be setting up for his usual big close with 215m or so to go and then got close to/bumped with Laros and seem to lose momentum. Hopefully a good learning experience! He will be back!

This was a much weaker semi, after the fall there were 10 guys left for 6 spots with no real speedsters. It was handed to Cole, all he had to do was run the last lap hard and he let himself get boxed in with 400 to go. Inexcusable. The DQ is harsh but he didn't show anything dominant.
Farken said in a post race interview (german) that he ran out of gas. He stated he „might have finished 8 instead of 10“ if Cole didn’t made that move
I keep seeing this point like it excuses Hocker's barging. It doesn't. Part of racing is being in the right place. Hocker got himself boxed, that's on him. I simply don't buy he argument that because one guy is better, he then gets to just shove his way through. Hocker only has himself to blame here. He had the lead in a slow race. He could easily have held it with a bit of effort and finished top-6. He chose to not react when people started coming passed
Kerr needs to make Laros prove he can run under 3:28 imo. That's his only chance because he hasn't proved he can do it in a really fast race yet.
I think youre right, but im not sure Kerr can do it based on what I saw today, he looked ropey in that finish, very different to the heat. R Cheruiyot going to be dangerous to Laros, JG has been spot on with that analysis.
Centro didn’t touch the guy. Hocker played bumper cars. Centro on the back straight; Hocker in the last 80m. Not comparable.
Bumper cars is right. From this angle you can absolutely tell just how aggressive he became to push through. This isn't jostling, it's cheating to gain an unearned advantage
So telling about this site how the mzungus on here fretting about who didn't make the final when one did...oh, he's not white. I forgot. Not one mention of him.

100% agree! This has to be the biggest mental gymnastic possible to exonerate Hocker here, it's classic faulty logic.
"oh but the rules say it's jostling to gain an advantage - he wasn't gaining an advantage because Farken was going backwards anyway"
It doesn't work that way. There has to be rule about contact in races right? It can't be like rugby out there. But the rule has to find a middle point because you can't disqualify people for clashing elbows or every type of bump because clearly everyone would be DQ'd. The rule allows for contact that might come from uncalculated and random movements in the race and their consequences eg. a field slows down and compresses and you need to put a hand on someones back to stop you both tripping (which we see all the time). It also allows you to defend your space on the track. So if someone wants to pass in front you and leans in on you, can could for example extend an elbow to defend your position.
None of what Hocker did fits that category. It doesn't matter if Farken was not moving as quickly as Hocker needed him to - that's not on Farken. Maybe Farken wasn't moving as quickly because he put in the effort earlier in the race to not be behind a bunch of guys with 80m to run.
If you watch the replay carefully - take your phone and record it on slo-mo or something, Hocker takes a big glance to his right just before his "move" where he sees Adrian Ben and realizes if he goes behind Farken there is nowhere there either. This shows 100% that what he does is premeditated - it's not incidental. And halfway through the incident there is a crazy shot where his right arm is basically extended fully out across Farken as he's leaning all over him and Farkens left arm can't even swing normally because of it.
It's actually one of the more blatantly obvious DQ's you'll ever see in a 1500m race because a lot of stuff is reactionary and caused by other events. This was only caused by Hocker and his decision making. End of story.
Not sure if it's been mentioned anywhere else here but Federico Riva who fell along with Foster Malleck early in semi 2 is showing a [qJ] on the results list (Riva has the qJ; Riva does not). Farken has a [qR]. Assuming this all stands, that will put 14 men in the final.

Thank you. This is the most sane response to this topic.
reminds me of how Hocker and Kerr looked last year in semis… laros wins this easy
3:34 wining time
It’s overshadowed but Semi 1s finish was among the most bizarre finishes I’ve seen. Laros seemed to be trying to run as slow as he possibly could while qualifying. Tim nearly had to stampede Kerr who seemed to downshift as well and then he almost went down and Kerr did. I think those 3 barely even tried in the race. In heat 2, Reynold went to about 80% on his kick and visibly shut it down. Those 4 look like the 3 medalists. Last year I’d have had Kerr, Nuguse, Hocker, Jakob and Hocker by eye test. Not sure I have a 5th this year as Koech looked like he had to work and his race sense was off. Ben/Wightman were near top gear in my eyes. And Hocker DQed would’ve been 5.

Agreed. I'm a little higher on Koech just because he seemed to be in react mode after dodging the early fall. Thought I caught a hint of a hitch/limp the next time they showed him from the back angle, but I haven't seen him enough to know whether he just has a bit of a rolling stride.
