I mentioned a few times to keep an eye on the UK and Portugal if you wanted to have an idea of what was likely to happen here in a few months. Here's a quick update on some nations that are using real vaccines (not from Russia, China...), passed 40% vaccination rate over a month ago and yet are seeing COVID numbers rise (presumably due to Delta and other variants although there may be other explanations).
(Round figures show percentage rise in cases)
Began to rise over a month ago:
UK: 1,200%
Portugal: 600%
Began to rise in last 30 days:
France: 100%
Italy: 50%
Spain: 400%
Germany: 30%
Israel: 400%
None of these have flattened out yet - all still rising. UK is currently at 50% of their all time peak for daily new cases, reached in January (and still rising).
Update
Countries that began to see increase in cases in May:
UK: Cases up over 2,000%, currently approaching January highs
Portugal: Cases up around 1,000%
Countries that began to see increase in cases in June:
France: Cases up 200%
Italy: Cases up 200%
Spain: Cases up 600%, currently approaching January highs
Germany: Cases up 100%
Israel: Cases up 4,500% (from a very low base)
USA cases began to rise in late June: Cases up 150%
The good news is VERY good news - it is clear that the vaccines are making this MUCH less deadly overall. Last year through early January fatality rate (deaths/diagnosed cases) was around 2%. Currently it is about 1/10 of that.
