it's pretty crazy that some people still talk about the Jussie Smollet "attack" as if it actually happened

Actor Jussie Smollett’s attorney Tina Glandian said her client has yet to decide if he will pursue a lawsuit against the city of Chicago, on “Good Morning America” Wednesday.

“We’re weighing our options now,” Glandian told host George Stephanopoulos. She also called Smollett “a victim” and said he still needs to begin healing from the alleged attack so he can get his life back on course.

“For Jussie what’s really important is, he really just wants his career and his life back,” she continued. “Again, he did not ask for any of this. He was a victim of a crime. This has completely spiraled out of control and become a political event at this point, and his goal and focus right now is just getting his life back on track. He has not even started healing from the initial attack because he’s been dealing with everything that’s happened since then.”

Seems like everyone can get such deals in Chicago. (And also, cf. the new DA in Boston, issuing "don't prosecute" rules for all sorts of crimes).

Foxx went on WBEZ Radio in Chicago Wednesday and said she understands the confusion for those on the outside "who don't understand the intricacies of the justice system, who don't understand alternative prosecution or diversion or alternate outcomes outside of prison or lengthy probation."

you don't typically see people "give up $10,000 of their hard earned money" unless they're being held accountable for something.

The Cook County State's Attorney has circulated an email asking prosecutors in the office to come up with other examples where they just dropped felony charges the way they did in the Jussie Smollett case ... this, as Jussie was making a hasty retreat out of Chi-Town via O'Hare International Airport.

According to the memo, obtained by the CBS affiliate in Chicago, the brass wrote, "We are looking for examples of cases, felony preferable, where we, in exercising our discretion, have entered into verbal agreements with defense attorneys to dismiss charges against an offender if certain conditions were met, such as the payment of restitution, completion of community service, completion of class, etc."

Here's the problem. Jussie did not do community service. Community service is often part of a plea deal where a certain number of hours is required by defendants who are convicted or cop a plea. In Jussie's case, all he did was spend a few hours over the weekend at Rainbow PUSH. That is not community service.

As for restitution .. Jussie forfeited a $10k bond, and that's it. As the Mayor said, it doesn't come near to paying the cost of the investigation.

"Nobody is in trouble, we are just looking for further examples of how we, as prosecutors, use our discretion in a way that restores the victim, but causes minimal harm to the defendant in the long term."

For once, all the ladies of the "The View" seemed to agree on something: the $150,000 spent on the Jussie Smollett case could have been spent fighting the many violent crimes that occur daily in Chicago.

Jussie Smollett was obviously pleased the charges against him were dropped on Tuesday but he was never worried about the case going trial because he was always “confident” he would emerge victorious.

Then why did the order get amended once it became clear it didn’t include the cops? Do judges usually grant things NO ONE asked for?

Oh and I imagine that all the access logs, computer backups, and video surveillance camera footage just happened to all get wiped clean (like with a cloth) so we will never know how Jussie's records got inadvertently sealed.

What agreement? His attorney denied there was any agreement or that he would be forfeiting any of the bond money.

Joe Magats, said Tuesday that the resolution Smollett enjoys “is available to all defendants; it's not something out of privilege; it's not something out of clout."

Foxx spokesperson Tandra Simonton claimed the Smollett resolution "is not a new or unusual practice.”
