Double dumb of Hocker to not just wait it out. Gourley was directly behind him and got in. Farken was going backwards. Be patient and go through when it opens up. He would have qualified.
I'm sure if you were in his position you would have nailed it perfectly right?
Hocker hasn't shown anything special as a 5000 runner. Both Almgren and Gressier are bigger favorites if Jakob isn't showing up.
Normal Jakob yes, but not elliptical crosstraining Jakob on low running mileage.
If Jakob makes this 5000 final he won't be a factor when they sound the bell. You don't go from the guy we saw yesterday to a 5000m threat in less than a week.
Hocker didn't really ruin Farkens race (he was going backwards anyway), but he 100% got an advantage for himself by pushing someone out of the way. Think of the precendent this would set if you were allowed to just shove people aside.
I'm talking about all the people crying here. You just can't push someone from behind and cry for getting DQed. They should blame him for his stupidity not encourage him
I haven't seen Hocker's race yet so no comment on whether he should have been DQed but how are you Laros fanboys going to like it when Hocker destroys the 5k field and Laros wins an empty 1500m final? Then we have 2026 with no championships and have to wait until 2027 before Laros can prove he's actually better than Hocker. It would have been so much better for everyone if Hocker was just in the final.
Way too many people are sleeping on Almgren for the 5000m. He has the world lead in the 5000 this season and he solo ran most of it in hot conditions.
And the 10 000 being a 9600m warmup jog and a 400m sprint isn't a race that plays to his strengths, he would benefit more from a fast race, but Almgren still held on better than most of the field to grab the bronze.

Nobody is saying it wouldn't be better for the race if every big runner was there.
Beamish good in XC, 1500 speed went to steeple early. Geez: sure sounds like Copper Teare could have been in same position if he followed suit at the same time 4 years ago.

He never had trouble waiting before. He panicked and he got the results you get when you panic. You lose.
some insights from a German for the Americans: Farken directly after the Race stated with disappointment in an interview with German television that he was simply going backwards in the final stretch, and he is mainly concerned with that (because he does not understand why that happened as he felt great going into the last 150m)) not really caring about the Hocker incident (stating he at best might have gotten seventh or eight without it, which wouldn't have mattered). He did not intend to file a protest (at least right after the race) stating: "The final stretch was incapacity, not someone else's fault". Do we have information whether a protest was filed by Germany, or did the judges simply DQ Hocker upon viewing the footage? I honestly think it can be simultaneously true that Hocker's move did not really have much of an actual impact on Farken's performance and it being correct to disqualify him nonetheless
I’m pretty sure Strand had a top-6 final 100m, maybe even the fastest last 100 in his heat. He struggled up to that point with positioning (and I think the third lap was tougher for him than he wanted it to be), and with 400 to go I thought it looked like he quit a little bit. Difficult race for him but he definitely had something left to burn the last 100.
Heck of a year for him no matter what.
OK I will take a second look when I rewatch. Everything equal he should have been able to sprint well since was behind at 1400m (thus saving energy; like Hocker in the Olympic final in 2021.
I, however, think he has looked very nervous both in the heat and today (star strucked? is he always so pale in his face?)
Otherwise: I think he has good chances of success in the future.
May God have mercy on this 5000m field. This man is coming back PISSED lol
Weird situation. If they run super tactical, which seems likely, I do think he's a real threat to eat their lunch a la Jakob. If ANY of the big dogs commit to a fast pace, i suspect hacker will impress but ultimately not challenge in the 5th-8th range. Not sure what the full game theory analysis suggests across all the competitors. Seems to me that the east Africans should employ some team tactics to keep it honest to weed out a couple fringe guys.
