Actually, in that scenario, the last history book ever written will have been written in September, 2022. It will not mention any nuclear strike. And nobody will ever read it.
Babylon the Great, destroyed in one hour of one day, in the Book of Revelation, sounds a lot like the USA. Russia has the tech to win a first strike against the USA, and survive intact enough to prosper. Doubtful Biden could respond within an half an hour, much less 3 minutes, to authorize a counter launch response.
US, UK and France have nukes. Under NATO obligations, if Russia strikes the US and manages to wipe it out, UK and France will launch a counter strike and wipe out Russia. Russia has to basically wipe out Europe and the US to avoid a counter strike. But that also assumes a strike on the US that is able to knock out not just every level of command and control, but also take out the US nuclear triad (land, sea and air), which is based all around the world. And Russia is actually mostly a poor and rural country. Russia's wealth is all concentrated in Moscow and St. Petersburg. Remember that Russia's economy has a GDP that is on par with S. Korea and Italy (and has probably dropped significantly since the outset of the war). So, any counterstrike against Russia will only have to take out St. Petersburg and Moscow to basically end Russia. The remaining smaller cities and provinces will all break apart as they all try to grab oil and gas resources that were previously held for the benefit of all Russians. Russia is very aware of this and only makes nuclear threats for the purpose of trying to spook adversaries into not crossing certain red lines.
Imagine losing 1/4 of your property to your neighbor in a dispute, while telling the rest of the neighborhood you’re winning. Talking trash the whole time. LOL!
And the whole neighborhood can see that the dlckhead across the street (who’s always sticking his nose in everyone’s business, and has been oddly hanging out in your garage for years now) is the only reason you’re even fighting at all. LOL
Imagine that your big tough guy acting bully of a neighbor tried to break into your house and throw you out of your own home, but you punched him in his f*#king face and he ran away. Lol!
If RU uses a tactical nuke I think the only response has to be deployment of NATO forces to destroy every Russian military asset on Ukrainian soil. Using conventional forces, but nonetheless, ending the war in a week.
But not touching RU soil.
If that happens, the chance of us all dying goes up to around 25%. But we can't have a world where RU rattles its nuclear saber and keeps eating up nations.

You clearly don't understand how the US Nuclear Triad works to deter a first strike against us.
the risk is that putin doesn't care.
we just saw how Trump decided to take down US democracy in order to stay in power.
putin could make a similar calculation: you want to kill me? You can do that,, but say hello to my little ICBM friends. My pride is defended, bye.

True, that we don't really know how far he would go. Hard for me to believe that even Putin would cross that line, which could escalate into worldwide destruction.

I never would have thought a president of the United States of America would instigate a coup and not leave power willingly. Cornered men who are accustomed to power are not thinking of you and me when they make their calculations.

Controlling 18% of Ukraine now would be a lot more impressive if Russia hadn't controlled 20% of it 4 months ago. But, keep telling yourself Russia is still "winning".
Russia's mobilization is off to a very Stalinist start. It appears that provincial governors are panicking in fear that the central government will accuse them of failing to carry out mobilization orders and are just sweeping up as many age eligible men as they can find. Military officers have been going through factories and pulling out all the male workers. Same in some universities even though Shoigu claimed that students would not be drafted. Mobilization office are being burned in several provinces. An overzealous response to the mobilization order raises the prospect of economic collapse and a complete inability to fund the war. Russia thinks that it can gain leverage this winter by withholding oil and gas from the EU. But oil prices are crashing (down below 80, 8 month low) and the RU stock market has crashed and is now at 50% of its pre-war value. A broad global recession hits Russia hardest because RU is reliant on oil and gas exports.
Russia is a country of about 144 mil people. But they are very spread out. Most Russian cities have less than 1 mil people. When you start taking out thousands of military aged males, you are going to have a very big impact on commerce as businesses will have to find replacements and train them. If you think RU has had supply chain problems so far in their military campaign in Ukraine, you have not seen anything like we will see once RU tries to maintain a new force of a few hundred thousand.
I still believe that RU's plan is to go full on Leningrad in Donbas by flooding the region with new recruits to try to wear down Ukraine forces by winter. The hope is for EU to grow tired of energy shortages and push UA to accept a deal that will transfer large parts of Donbas to RU in exchange for a peace deal and the end of sanctions. While I think that previous predictions that Russia will crumble under the weight of sanctions were at best premature, if there is no peace deal this winter and UA manages to keep fighting through the spring, RU's economy will collapse by spring under the weight of this massive new mobilization, crashing energy prices and a collapse in internal production.

I suspected you were a fool for over a year. Thank you proving it with your posts today.

And then some here will show the desire of the people for self-determination. Hell, even Turkey has condemned the referendums.

Caught on video.
Folks are justly ridiculing these referenda at gunpoint. But you can’t help but note how even the most hideous tyrannies are eager to drape themselves in colors of democratic legitimacy. Which is why there’s more to Fukuyama than many people are willing to admit. https://t.co/uaxP8drkww

eh I take this back. If NATO attacks RU forces we'll all die.
I think we'd have to just sit back and take it. The world is messy.

I mean if RU uses a tactical nuke on Ukraine, they'll ALSO use a tactical nuke on NATO. Then what? It's a death sentence.

Just tell Russia we're giving Ukraine their nuclear weapons back if Russia crosses that line. Give them something with a range to Moscow. MAD requires a plausible threat from both sides. Ukraine can't be any more dangerous than the nutters in control of Pakistan.
To call up 300.000 (three meals a day?) non soldiers who do not want to be there is so damn stupid. What is Putin thinking, hell if 75.000 of his real sodiers got killed how will these clowns do, hahahaha!!!!!
Here's another DUH!
Big train carrying Russians tanks. tucks, weapons arriving to help out, well a few minutes after arrival.....BOOM BOOM BOOM...destroyed, hahahahaha!!!!!!!!
Russia is too dumb to fight any war, we all see it.
