Holy cow. One wants to believe that a post like this is a joke, but unfortunately, it isn't. The country is 3,000 miles wide. There are 330 million people. There are dozens of large cities, hundreds of cities, and thousands upon thousands of towns. One CANNOT walk out the door and figure out how crime is throughout the country and how that compares to recent years and decades. My god. You know, like for hundreds of thousands of years humans looked around and said, "The world is flat." They were as wrong about that as you are about what you can single-handidly perceive about just about anything from your isolated perch.

Yes, I think you are.
A poll is not the same thing as a crime statistic. It says nothing at all about the actual crime rate.

Fats makes an excellent point.
I believe every poll on crime finds people believe crime is rising.
I mean every poll from 1950-2021 has found the same thing: people believe crime is increasing. Of course crime has fallen tremendously since 1991 but in all those years people STILL thought crime was rising.
People are hardwired to think the past was better than the present. It's truly one of humanity's core traits. Western humanity anyway.

I'd suggest that those who are just here to get a rise out of people bear equal if not greater responsibility than the truly but honestly deluded.
As annoying as doing that is, those folks may NOT be pulling the lever for Trumper candidates. Anyone who is pulling the lever for Trumpers, regardless of the reason, is doing real harm to the country....not just annoying people on a website.
Climate Change is another great example of the same kind of thinking. It got cold last winter. Therefore, global warming is a hoax. People really do think that way.
Unfortunately, I think that the Trump era has strongly suggested the chances of getting large numbers of additional Americans concerned about climate change is quite small. If people are so wrapped up in their identities that they can't even be convinced that Donald Trump was/is bad for America, what are the chances of convincing them that climate change - something that they view as a 100% "radical left" issue - is real?
To be a bit more specific, Trumpers watched Trump's behavior for years and concluded that that was acceptable from a President. There really was no "out" to conclude that, and yet they did. But for the foreseeable future, folks who think like Trumpers (and even many somewhat shy of that mark) will ALWAYS be able to look at most or all evidence of climate change in the news and tell themselves that it's STILL just normal variation.
If you know that half the country is willing to believe that black is white, what are the chances of convincing them of something with ANY nuance to it whatsoever, that conflicts with their identity? One could probably put vaccinations in this category, as well.

there's some good research out there that suggests green issues are one of the few bipartisan issues out there.
I think green issues could be one thing that actually unites rather than separates.

Very few cities have made significant cuts in the police force. Of those who did, we don't know the effect. You are just making stuff up.
And also irrelevant to the point being discussed. And, of course, assumes that all anti-Trumpers are Ds. Because, I guess, his mind is far too small to get around such a tough concept.

Damn, I should have been a criminologist. Decent pay, the great security of tenure, and it's got to be SO freakin' easy! Find a picture of crime, conclude that it's bad all over and getting worse, and go home for the day. What a life !

Hold on.
Republicans proved global warming is a hoax years ago.
https://youtu.be/3E0a_60PMR8?t=9PA State Senator Doug Mastriano has initiated a full forensic audit in Philadelphia, Cuyahoga and York counties. The audit will be equal in both Dem and Repub counties.
It will show how corrupt the 2020 election was in PA Dem counties as opposed to Republican ones. Mastriano is also taking charge of the audit because he intends to use it as a catapult into the 2022 Governor's race.
If the AZ, GA & PA audits show that Trump won, the world will know that the Biden/Harris ticket was fraudulently elected. I predict impeachment articles will be drawn up after the 2022 midterms.

LOLz, dude you are still on that??? I would feel bad for your mental condition if you weren't such a clown on top of it. What else do you predict? That this will actually be a real audit unlike the AZ grift? And what about trump - still think he'll be reinstated in Aug? Impeachment? LOLz for what? Let us hear you out.

Possibly so. Research I have seen shows the same thing. The big problem we have now is getting people from, "Ok, it's a serious problem." to "Ok, we gotta do something about this now".
To nonequals' point, the thing I see changing a lot of people's mind is just reality.
For instance, the Florida Key have become a very Republican part of the country. But the keys are flooding more and more because of sea level rise. Residents are noticing and trying to unload their houses.
The same kind of thing is playing out in deep red states like Utah, where the record heat and drought is undeniable. When you are worried about water shortages you start to wonder if this climate change thing might be for real.

But that's what coordinated GQP/FOX brainwashing is for. They know those people are just too gullible and that the last thing they will do is believe and admit that a "lib" issue is real. They get the right-wing sauce and problem solved... even if they lose their homes, communities, lives, etc.

You said you would be laughing in the fall, but Biden crushed him. Then you said the states would not certify and they did. Then you said the AZ audit would show systemic fraud and it didn't. Why should anybody believe you or the Cyber Ninjas? I know you wanted those pesky trump appointed judges to help him topple our democracy completely, but that didn't work out so well. Perhaps it's time to reassess and come to terms with the possibility that maybe, just maybe, you've been fooled?
