Recent data shows that Omicron is about as “innocuous” as the original strain. Those pesky confounders always pop up… I hate to say it. But we can control for them with careful, reasoned science based on data and not anecdotes.

There is no evidence of excess death that isn’t directly COVID linked in the USA. The data everyone uses is from fall 2021 and that’s…. The Delta wave which hit young people much harder.

It’s a known fact that Delta and later waves have hit younger populations much harder than waves in 2020. You are posting COVID deaths and, thus, proving my point.

That is, vaccination rate is negatively correlated with excess mortality over all periods, but most notably during the delta wave in Q3-4 of 2021.
From CDC data the proportion of Covid deaths in the younger, nominally "working age" population increases during 2021, again most notably during the delta wave, which is consistent with the emergence of more transmissible strains of Covid and lower vaccination rates in the younger population.
Under scrutiny, I don't see how Dowd's narrative holds up and, frankly, how it can be made out to be a good faith misinterpretation of the data he's using.
