How can Chicago CPD go about and FAIL to find Jussie's homophobic racist M-A-G-A attackers, and then try to drop the whole thing. One way or the other, Jussie deserves his day in court, to testify against the hate. Just because Chicago CPD didn't find the racist homophobic attackers doesn't mean that Jussie can't speak out about how he, as a victim, has overcome what they have put him through. Chicago CPD likely didn't want to be crossexamined about their FAILURE to find the m.a.g.a homophobes and racists who perpetrated this hideous and outrageous 2am attack against Jussie.

Cool. Were you there that night? Smollett's camp says he was the victim of a hate crime. The police dispute that. There isn't video of the alleged attack. Thus, we may never know what really happened.

Seems that "community service" meant hanging with Jesse Jackson and appearing on PBS.
Jussie Smollett spent two days volunteering with Jesse Jackson Sr.’s nonprofit group, a key factor that led prosecutors on Tuesday to drop all charges against the actor for allegedly staging a fake hate-crime against himself.
A letter from the Rainbow PUSH Coalition said the “Empire” actor spent “several hours volunteering” with the group on Saturday and Monday.
“Empire” music director Rich Daniels also penned a letter in support of Smollett, where he highlighted the actor’s surprise visit to a Chicago-based arts school.
“The charges were dropped in return for Mr. Smollett’s agreement to do community service and forfeit his $10,000 bond to the City of Chicago,” the Cook County State Attorney’s Office
A letter from “Empire” music director Rich Daniels, who highlighted Smollett’s work with non-profit groups outside working hours.
Among the highlights was Smollett’s visit to a Chicago-based African-American arts school in January, where Daniels said the celebrity’s surprise visit inspired joy in children and faculty alike.
“The reaction Jussie received was nothing short of inspiring as the children squealed with joy when he surprised them in their classrooms and the faculty and staff were no different,” Daniels wrote. “It was both a memorable afternoon and the beginning of what will hopefully be a significant relationship with Jussie and this program.”
Smollett also donated his “time and talent” for the taping of the “Chicago Voices” concert on PBS, according to Daniels.
“Chicago Tribune critic Howard Reich indicated in his review of the national broadcast that the performance with Jussie was the highlight of the program,” Daniels wrote.
Daniels also said Smollett “would perform at the national conference of The Kennedy Forum in Chicago”, attended a single meeting with the Executive Director of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Chicago, and appeared at a concert promoting “sound mental health” at The Kennedy Center in Washington D.C.
Jussie Smollett logged a total of 18 hours of community service over 2 days -- with Jesse Jackson's organization, the Rainbow PUSH Coalition -- and that was enough to satisfy prosecutors in Chicago.
Honchos at Rainbow PUSH -- a civil and human rights organization -- tell us, Jussie volunteered for the first time Saturday, putting in 8 hours from 10 AM to 6 PM. He just completed another 10 hours on Monday.
We're told Jussie's "service" included stuffing membership envelopes, working in the group's bookstore to sell merchandise ... and critiquing its Saturday broadcast. We're told he helped them with camera angles, and also worked with the music director on a plan to build the choir.
A Rainbow PUSH rep says it was their decision, not Jussie's, to keep his work with them under wraps. The rep added that they viewed his efforts as volunteering, not community service. Point being ... Jussie never mentioned his deal with prosecutors. Remember, the prosecutor's office says it was in discussions with Smollett's camp for weeks about dropping the charges.
Another group, the Black AIDS Institute, wrote a letter in support of Jussie.
We're told he planned and hosted a December gala for the group -- which is based in L.A. -- but we're told he hasn't done any work with them since his arrest. So, the letter speaks more to his character than any Chicago community service.
If they were just going to drop it, why invoke the Grand Jury in the first place? Probably that already costs $10k with all the background legwork that needs to be set in place.

Illinois Politician Introducing Bill to Punish Productions That Employ Jussie Smollett
In response to the surprise decision today to drop charges against Jussie Smollett , Illinois State Representative Michael McAuliffe says he plans to file legislation to prohibit any production using the actor from receiving Illinois Film Tax Credits.
I can't believe the Haters are already stepping in to harangue an innocent man again.

Production sources tell TMZ ... there are still people on the set -- especially writers -- who believe the dismissal of charges is a vindication, proving Jussie was a victim.
We're also told there are a number of people on the "Empire" set who share the view that Jussie staged the attack and are shocked by the lack of consequences ... and don't want him back on the show. They are especially offended Jussie allegedly faked the attack to squeeze more money out of producers.
