Kenya's Geoffrey Mutai has won the Boston Marathon in an unofficial 2 hours, 3 minutes, 2 seconds — the fastest marathon ever run.

The elite men heading out at the start of the 115th Boston Marathon on Monday in Hopkinton, Mass.

The previous best of 2:03:59 was by Haile Gebrselassie in Berlin 2008. Because of the differences in courses and wind conditions, there isn't an official world record in marathons.

This is to all the bone heads who kept saying Hall was done, he'll never run faster (just like they do daily about German F)....clearly Hall is not "done" and neither is German. When someone has the talent and is focused and works hard, this is the result! Congrats Ryan, fantastic run!

Actually, yet again Hall under achieves. He was almost 2 minutes down from the winner. This is a race, not a time trial. The fast times are nice, but everyone ran fast. I am much more impressed with Davila. She was not talked about much, but was in the mix and raced this to the very end,

Another upside from Davila's performance: we'll get to see Kara struggle to come across as gracious when I'd bet anything that she is really pissed off that she got beat by another American and a Hanson's runner at that.

ESPN has a story, Sports Illustrated does not (yet); ESPN makes the mistake of saying because it is not a WR it is not the fastest marathon every run. Really, 2:03:02 is a higher number than 2:03:59?

With regard to PR's, this race will have to be referred to as "B*st*n 2011".

It only shows the top two in both cases.

It seemed to me that when Davila was passed the final time, she shut it down briefly and had a what-am-I-doing moment, after which she picked it up again and started a final charge.

I believed and believed and believed in Ryan Hall and just when I was beginning to lose faith he goes out and breaks 2:05!

Thank you Ryan for teaching me to never give up hope.

Not only was the course record set, but just think if last year they had not run a CR, it would have been a HUGE lowering of the mark.
