I really feel for Cole and think he might hbe following a stertyopical path. High load, loads short term gains, but long term its a tight rope.
I was running 900km+ months in pursuit of GB vest (working full time & dad, so try and guess the recovery/sleep I was getting) gains were amazing, but goal race was sh*t and been burned out/injured since. I haven't really admitted to people it's burnout, and keep referring to my achilles pain (which is there, but even if it wasn't I would have struggled to run, in a way achilles has been a blessing as it forced a break). There's a sense of embarrassment, so I think runners don't share the mistake enough and warn others of it.
It's honestly so easy to think maybe I am superhuman and genetically recover faster. You see Jake and think maybe I'm like him. Some people are, but for most us, unfortunately the body has limits.
I genuinely like Cole and content and do hope he has outlying robustness, but dialling in a little would seem the optimum long term choice.
On a positive note after basically 2 months of not running, I'm quite overweight and suprisingly not that slow. Maybe not being over trained/burned out all the time is way to go.....
