Weirdest workout you've run or seen run

I once ran around ONE baseball field for 90mins to stay off concrete [recovering from anemia].

In college, my coach had us do 'mountain runs' every sunday during pre-season. One 15-miler, we climbed 4000 ft. Ears popping and everything. Didn't really pay off during the season...

ah yes, i have a habit of doing stupid and boring workouts. one day, my cross country coach told me to go out for an hour long run. i didn't feel like running an hour on concrete, so i ran 60+ laps around our school's girls soccer team. after 20 minutes, i could already hear their confusion.

another dumb workout. once again, i was not able to leave the house as there was a downpour of rain outside. and i sure as hell will not run on a treadmill. so i did about forty minutes of high knees in one place.

Nope, Ryan in Philly. We didn't have a track (indoor or outdoor) so indoor was the second floor hallway and outdoor was around the soccer field. (Which weren't supposed to walk acroos, because the soccer coach was the AD).

My HS coach would have us do hill repeats early in the year when most of the team was in crappy shape.

A few months later we would repeat the workout with our mouths full of water, forcing you to breathe through your nose. He expected us to run the same times.

I suppose he thought it would help us to deal with oxygen debt better. In the end, it was a pretty bad idea. He told us Jim Ryun used to do it.

I know Bob Hotel from others' stories, mostly. He used to be a pretty decent marathoner, in the early 70's.

I ran at PVHS in the late 70's and early 80's, while he was coaching at West High. Some of the stories about Hotel must be fictional, as they seem pretty far-fetched.

Greg - I went to West in the late 70s, so maybe you were involved one of the many times PV stomped us. You were the only team we feared. (Rolling Hills? Don't make me laugh.)

As to Bob H., are you talking about the incredible distances he used to run, or ... other stuff? I never got the real story why he 'retired' from coaching, but there were plenty of rumors. Let's just say we bought HIM beer on his birthday. He was quite a character.

It was kind of a drag that he stopped coaching, because the guy who replaced him was a real "race every workout - inspire through verbal abuse" kind of guy. He only lasted one year.
