If Farah were to be stripped of his gold medals (won't happen but stay with me) then they'd be transferred from a "gray area doper" to straight up blatant EPO dopers like Gebremeskel, Tanui, Jeilan, Gebrhiwet, Kipsang, Ndiku, Cheptegei, etc..... Just an incredibly stupid endeavor.

It's a non-story. He was injected with l-carnitine but it was legal. If the injected dose was at a level above the legal limits and it remained active in his body then it would have been detected at the London marathon. It's morally wrong but he broke no rules. It's all academic anyway as no one will beat the kenyans and ethiopians in the marathon.

As for the study itself, I suspect he's referring to this one (on which, you'll notice, "T Nolan" is listed as an author). The average 5K times were 20.25 minutes for Kenyan kids from "towns," and 18.42 minutes for Kenyan kids from "villages." (Hang on, does this mean that village kids have better genetics?) The fastest time recorded in the whole study was 16:16. That's still a decent time for a high-schooler -- but it's not what you expect would be required to beat a "Danish track superstar." (The Danish national record, for what it's worth, is 13:25.)"

There is no legal limit on l-carnitine via any method of administration.

The legal limit on infusions exist because infusions can be used to mask all sorts of performance enhancing drugs and prevent detection.

There is no way to tell if an infusion is being given for masking purposes or to inject a legal supplement (or both, since it would mask even if that was not the intent).
