Sean Hartnett aka Professor Marathon. Certainly the measurement/mapping guru within this niche, but also should be mentioned here for his knowledge of distance running in general.

Ted was my mentor.
The late, great NJCAA legend Denny Myers.
I won’t quite call him the John McDonell of the community college world but he wasn’t too far off and should have had another decade ahead of him when we lost him in 2018 at age 60. Across several schools and decades of coaching his teams won national titles everywhere he went and otherwise finished in the top few teams as consistently as the sun rising in the east.

My neighbor once jogged the block a few times back in the day (good ol 60s). He always has tons of great advice on how to better heal strike and that to be a faster runner you just have to stop being a p***y. I vote for him

I wish I had your neighbor.

I like this addition and I'll add another Villanova member (and trigger the LRC incel crowd since it's a woman) : Gina Procaccio. She might be tough, but it's really hard to argue with the results she's had and I think it's fair to say she's a "guru".
How about some of the Japanese?
I don't know of any, due to my westernisation, but there must be some real gurus from over there

Nobby comes to my mind.
You can remove Nancy Clark from the original list. She has written the same article for the last 35 years...just re-arranged the words a little.
Here...I'll summarize: "Eat carbohydrates after you exercise." Ta da!
Alberto Salazar
Tom Schwartz
Renato Canovo
Brad Hudson
Scott Simmons
Hudsons
Keith and Kevin Hudson
etc...
David Rinker, formerly of Brevard College (mainly when they were JuCo). Maybe the most unheralded coach in the Southeastern United States. Think he's at James Madison University now.

Who?????????
Bart MF Yasso
I'll be curious to look back in 20 years and see if people have Andy Young on this list.
Took Laura Muir from a 4:38 runner in first year of university to 4:00 in 4 years, and 3:55 in 5 years, all while she was in vet school and he was still working a day job.
Gabriela Stafford joins his group and goes from journeyman to top 10 in IAAF rankings, 4 national records, beating people like Arafi, Tseguy, debuts in the 5000 at 14:51, all in the span 6 months while finishing her undergrad.
Jemma Reekie just won u23 double gold 800-1500 and has a 4:05pb at 21.
That's not a bad body of work for a guy who hasn't even been coaching full time for more than five years. If he keeps the conveyor belt of talent coming out like that and improving rough gems he might make this list sooner rather than later.
