It doesn't take strength to not look hunched and crippled.

I actually didn't realize that was her right away. It looked like a 20 year fast forward of a retired former elite joining in for a warm-up shuffle.

Why would you say that? They are just a typical match.

I watched the video and read the tweet. There is really very little additional that can be said.

It is only her first race to finish in such a long time so it is hard to say yet. We don't know how hard she pushed, or if it was a rust buster, or used it as training to build up again. Her next performance will tell us if she is really back, if she improves her time much. Look at Bekele, after his big break between 2009 and 2011 he didn't finish the WC 10,000m but ran the fastest time of this decade shortly afterwards. In 2016 he was 3rd in London despite no drinks and little training after being off for 2015. He then went on to win Berlin with a clean WR. So it is not just the first performance after a long time off. WC 10,000m and London 2016 were very different, but both races were the start of his return to being the best.

I really urge LR to ban posters who engage in female body-shaming. Take a stand with a no-tolerance policy, please.

This and unfounded drug accusations. Remove the posts and ban them.

Was there a negative post in this thread? People saying that she will have to lose weight to be elite is not shameful. That’s like saying somebody is shaming a college basketball player when they state that he needs to gain 20 pounds or when we say an NFL lineman who put 40 pounds in in the offseason is now too slow. I think we are overly sensitive when discussing women’s bodies. But when doing it in the context of elite athletics, it is not personal. It’s like telling her she needs to run more miles or get more sleep.

No. Censorship is never the answer. Can't ban something/someone because your feelings get hurt. Looks like you need thicker skin. Words hurt only if you let them. Body shaming is stupid, but so is censorship.

Our country is great because we are free. Censoring speech that you don't like seems fine to you but I don't like what you have to say. So we should censor everything that you say. At some point, only Hitler is left to tell you what you can say.

Who coaches her? From the quotes in the video, she really, really needs someone to guide her along.

LR is free to ban whoever they want. If someone wants to body-shame, they are free to walk out their door and say whatever they want. Just like Alex Jones being kicked off of Facebook, LR is free to stop creepy guys from body-shaming women on their website; in fact, I think they have a responsibility to do so. Women are much more likely to become anorexic or bulimic than men and having negative comments published on a website visited by so many in the running community can have serious repercussions. I'd like to think that people who post on this site would behave responsibly, but let's face it, that's a total joke. There needs to be some control from the top down.
