Guy concerned for the image you give our sport

I made it through 1:36 of the video where he chronicled his 3:39 race. I have to say that the channel needs a new title too ... maybe "The Athlete is Special" or "Special Athletes Corner".

Once I switched windows to write this, he was still talking and he said "Guys, it's a little hard for me to get footy right now." Is that a thing? Is that something that people say?

I watched a video of that Zach nerd from William and Mary who ran 14:46 and I was shocked that people waste their lives making these videos, but more shocked that people waste their lives watching them. This Brown video was much worse though. This was a complete waste of 9:20 as he covered things like the weather, California, and race-day vegetable mode. I am old but was surprised that these Georgetown runners would just lay around for two days and laze around and buy coffee and stuff just 2 weeks before finals. Sorry, I don't enjoy being mean, but that guy was too much to take. The video of the race was the only redeeming part of the video, but that already exists for people to watch.

3:39 is great. If he quits now he will have been a success. But those of you who were making a big deal about him beating two OTC runners (one of them Mead), that is disingenuous. He beat just 3 people in a big heat. Again, 3:39 is great, but once I watched the race, too much was made of it. Good for him, but several people run 3:39 every year, and they have for 40 years.

For starters Craig Virgin is not a 1500 meter guy. So you are saying Spencer Brown is better then Craig Virgin? Look the guy is just some kid with a You Tube Channel that got almost dead last in his race, now he is the next miler. Is he laying in bed next to you buddy? All he does is brag on himself, just look at his site on YouTube. The sad thing is most of these post are from him, or people around him, or in bed with him, or his creepy dad.

Obviously not Craig Virgin is one of the greatest distance runners to ever do it, that's also why you can't compare Brown to Webb. 3:39 is absolutely not a hobby jogger time. That's not a debate. I don't really care what's said about Spencer Brown because I'm not particularly fond of him personally but it's good to see people not be so transparent about their training even if they aren't interesting. Even Levet that isn't fast and is like a wet piece of cardboard is good for the sport. The only thing I really took offense to was Rojo legit trying to make a joke about a collegiate athlete and saying he thought the guy was mentally challenged. Like you were a coach man, grow up. For the record Brown is not the next miler and I don't believe he will be a sponsored athlete but he should definitely try as he may have the talent to get to that level.

Two threads titled" The Special Athlete" sealed his fate, not to mention the fact that he got almost dead last.I just saw his videos and I agree, he sucks.

No wonder the sport of running is never able to grow, because stupid no-names on Letsrun are never able to accept that anyone else on the internet is good or doing good for the sport

I am usually a pretty serious guy. I have been watching the athlete special and actually think it is kinda funny. He doesnt take himself too seriously. He does however mix in plenty of humor (whether your taste in humor or not) and shares his thoughts about being a di runner from the perspective of being a di runner. What the heck is wrong with that? Whether he becomes a pro runner - who cares. The kid ran 3:39 and broke the 3:40 barrier. That doesnt make him an olympian but it is still really good and ranks pretty high on most lists including most college programs and even the current ncaa list.

Is the kid narcissist? Idk. It looks to me like he is having fun. Why the hate because he hasnt equalled his success in the 10k/xc in the same way he has at 1500/mile? Plenty of others share this. Finally- some people are funny and some try but arent. ROJO tried to be funny with his special olympics comment. It wasnt funny and quite frankly showed poor taste and a lack of intelligence from an ivy league grad.

Rojo is behind the times, which is ironic given that he runs a running news website.

Yea The Athlete Special is a good watch, legit fun to watch him progress. This is your last chance to get on the bandwagon
