I was just complaining about the weather. I never knew talking about Boulder was along the divisive lines of Trump.

I showed up the early 80s. Running mags told me that Shorter would run regularly with a huge group of fast guys I recognized. New Zealand Splits ads showed fashionable runners at the Mesa trailhead. Dick Quax was timing intervals at Potts. Mary Decker had an apartment.
I ran all over the town until nearly 1990, and saw none of what I said above.
Mesa NEVER had anyone else running on it. I ran Magnolia, alone every time. I saw a few fast mid-80s guys on the track here and there, during the summers, but nowhere else. Deek ran 7m miles at one 5K I ran, and that was it.
The zenith for Boulder was a LONG time ago. If you're a hotshot in the CU XC program, you'll be okay during, but maybe working at a pizza place after. It's been run out, guys. There are cooler places, nicer places, cheaper places.

Except... what is with all of the complaining about wind? Boulder definitely gets some wind off of the plains and when a front is coming in. But it is really not a windy place. Try Minnesota or Illinois in the spring!
Anyway, if you can find the place with great year round weather and plenty of good work opportunities and lots of running trails and minimal traffic/great transit and affordable housing— move there and never tell anyone about it. Good luck!
NO WAY you are a resident and just said that. The wind blows from the west when it's windy, not the plains. WIND STORMS. They are real.

For a single guy in his upper 20s or 30s, it's pretty lame. Not many single ladies besides the CU scene, and they are kids. You end up going out in Denver. But, I'd bet that for divorced / never married dudes in their 40s+ it is probably an awesome MILF / cougar factory on par with the best that LA has to offer.

Just not a good town for singles unless you're college age or into college kids, a la David Wooderson alright alright alright. It's a sausage fest and among the women who are single there's a far higher than average proportion of anxiety, mental health, and drug issues. Lots of down-to-earth, fit, career-minded women down the road in Denver, though there are clearly reasons they don't live in Boulder. Marry before you move there is my advice.

This place sucks for training. The altitude is not that high. The weather is only good during the summer & fall. Summers are too hot honestly.
Everyone talks about how the winters here are mild. Not really true. If it's not freezing and you get a warm day here, the WIND BLOWS 40-60mph. I looked this up, Boulder is one of the windiest cities in the US. I've never had to run on a treadmill because it was too windy until I came here. Try doing a track workout in 25mph sustained winds, nightmare.
The city itself is cool. But kind of boring? Don't get me wrong, it's a nice place, but all the hype kind of kills it. Think Black Panther or The Last Jedi, hype and reality = disappointed.
I know I know, "Just Move".
I've never been there, but I agree with the OP if he's being honest about the high winds quite often. It truly hinders proper pacing when doing track workouts.
Snarfs does suck by the way. I think the locals love it for some reason but i cant figure out why

But yes, unless you're coming to it from Indiana or something, Colorado/the Front Range/Boulder aren't all that special. California has a place for everyone, and you can find very affordable spots nearly everywhere. If you can work remote like someone said the other day, this is simple.

Maybe but it has just one location with limited hours. I had one of the worst brisket sandos I've ever tried to eat at Blackbelly.

Oh yeah? I ate it but then I couldn't make the turn onto 55th street at rush hour because the commuting a-holes on their way back to Firestone were blocking the lanes to Arapahoe

Thanks for that, seriously. I'll take my normal average USA town Shelby Township, Michigan and run out at Stoney Creek on weekends. Winters are give and take and I have a treadmill, but Spring, Summer and Fall are great running weather. Thanks again as an old College teammate was trying to get me to move out there to Fort Collins several years ago, glad I stayed put.
Speaking of food and sandwiches in Boulder:
I think Blackbelly is overpriced. Aren't their breakfast burritos $6 or $7? And they aren't even that big. The Los Dos Bros food truck in the parking lot of the Boulder Dinner Theater has amazing breakfast burritos for cheap. Get the grande for $6.
I like the Snarf's Italian with giardiniera. Deli Zone Giuliani is pretty damn tasty too. I used to like Salvaggio's but kind of got tired of it. I might have to give it a shot again.
How has nobody mentioned the biggest perk about living in Boulder? You may catch a glimpse of Anton and his flowing locks as he flies by you!!!!

It's not overpriced if you enjoy it. Blackbelly's house hot sauce flavor is lacking. I prefer Half Fast Subs better than Salvaggio's, tho finding parking on the Hill means I rarely go. Maybe should bike over there on a sunny day.
Used to go Cosmos and then Abos for pizza, tried Audrey Jane's Pizza Garage and didn't find it worth the price. I do miss Jalinos but not Beau Jo's. Locale is alright, but the Denver locations are better.
They do a really great job putting on the Boulder Bolder 10K with all the waves. Whether you're trying to run it fast or run it drunk or both, there's a spot for you.
