Did Usain Bolt really run a 4.22 40-yard dash at the Super Bowl?? It wasn't anywhere close to that on my stopwatch

No need to go on a fake news rant. It’s just PR taken on its face by some people. This is hardly controversial since the whole thing was a PR event and anyone can see he is not taking it seriously. Fake news is when someone pretends that they are doing an investigative piece. If anything this is harmless, sloppy journalism.

First, everything is local to a reference frame. Light (signals) don't travel instantaneously. This is the theory of special relativity.

The higher the gravitational potential (the farther the clock is from the source of gravitation), the faster time passes. Clocks close to massive bodies run more slowly.

Clearly, Atlanta had many more people there (creating mass) than your video replay. So how can you be surprised that their clocks were slower?

Just because I point out he ran well over 4.22 seconds doens't mean I hate track and field. Do NFL shows not run replays for weeks about what was or wasn't a catch? If someone replays the non call on the New Orleans pass interference, does that mean they want to kill the NFL?

No. It means they found something interesting and want to correct the record.

But I'm seriously blown away that anyone can watch the video and think it was closet o 4.22 seconds.

1) Buy a stopwatch.

2) Start it when Bolt starts running. Stop it when he hits the finish line.

3) If you think it's close to 4.22, then you are crazy.

I haven't handtimed Bolt's run. However, it seems to me that if Bolt was actually that far away from a 4.22, we can all head over to John Ross' 4.22 and see if there's a significant difference. If there is, and we're all actively trying to get the correct time, the fact that it's handtimed won't matter. If all of us are handtiming it like five times and the difference is still something like 0.4, this discredits Bolt's run. Rojo, why don't you give it a try?

You used your thumb to start and stop. That's a no-no hand timing. Still, he didn't run 4.22.

ROJO, seriously, go to the video with the clock above the finish line. It was definitely rigged to stop at 4.22 when he crossed the line. It changes erratically at the end of his run.

Also, if you watch John Ross's 40 video, it times out to be right around 4.22 (which doesn't seem right since it's supposed to be laser timed, but still, it's way faster than Bolt's video).

It's obvious this was a set-up. And people should expose the NFL for trying to pull a fast one here, just as they should be exposed for the collusion case and the concussion cover-up. People should know the truth.

How do you know that the NFL was in on the rigging? Maybe it was only Bolt's people who knew.

What's more disturbing is that it took LRC's rojo to expose this, rather than 4chan or someone doing it. Just shows you how irrelevant track is to most people, even when it has overlaps to a popular sport like NFL football.

In this case, his probability density function of potential times, assuming it is normally distributed across that range records the greatest probability at 4.25. Critically, someone running a 4.22 before Bolt does not alter Bolt's chances of running 4.22, assuming he is capable.

Perhaps you are using a non-uniform prior distribution of his potential times and think there is a strong likelihood that he will exactly tie the record, one instance of him running 4.22 should not change your posterior probability of his time. Regardless, this does not make him tying a record less probable.

Usually, dumbness dies in darkness, but here we were able to shine the light of truth on the matter, and give track another press publicity boost when the fake Bolt 4.22 story breaks.

I didn't watch the superbowl (too busy running), but WHY would there be a PR stunt during the largest American sporting event for an athlete that competes against America? Why is this guy even popular outside of Jamaica? The guy is a total clown, and Lance 2.0. I get that he's a freak athlete, but I don't understand why Americans like him so much.
