I think both experiment done by Nike and real world data said that these shoes also benefit "slow" runners.

The shoes work, regardless of ability. Let me ask you this: If you were one of the tens of thousands of people who missed a BQ by a few minutes, looking back would you have paid $100 for a faster shoe if it meant qualifying for Boston?

Why is this even a topic of discussion anyways? Running is such a cheap sport and if you’re serious about running, you’re already spending $125 on shoes. Who freaking cares if they cost a little extra?

As a former scratch golfer, I see this sort of purchasing behavior all the time regarding golf equipment. Players who rarely ever hit the ball squarely on the sweet spot spend several hundred dollars on the latest metal head driver or 60 degree wedge or the latest putter that's popular on the PGA tour. They would improve their game far more if they spent the money on lessons and practice balls. A few months later, the new 500 dollar driver is for sale on Craig's list for 150.

The marketing behind the Vaporfly is nearly perfect. Create demand, limit the available number, and price it higher than anything else.

4% improvement on a sh!t time is just a slightly less sh!t time.

As just another good runner there are lots of things I won't buy. Garmins, or other expensive watches, expensive shoes, 1" split shorts, singlets, I guess almost anything runners buy. I don't ride a mountain bike very well and wouldn't spend a lot of money for one of those either.

Uhmmmm , ever hear of duct tape? It's a good substitute for both and everyone has got some laying around.

Nike is genius in their marketing. The kind of runner that legitimately could use the VF4% can't really get it because people making tons of money sitting behind the desk and put in maybe only 30 miles a week want to have the shiny new item that clearly only real runners have. If the shoe was $150 and easily obtainable they'd end up selling less of them. At least 75% of all people I've seen purchase that shoe are 40+ years old and of those nearly all of them are running close to or over 5 hours for a marathon. When you're moving at 11+ minute pace that's not running. Just like a racewalker moving at 7 minute pace isn't a runner either, you're moving yeah but that's not what running looks like buddy.

I throughly enjoyed running 3:04 at Chicago a week ago in a new pair of LunarTempos that cost me $45 on ebay. I found it rather humorous to see a lot of Vaporfly wearers walking around mile 21. They might have been injured, but maybe if people would put more effort into training and less stock in their shoes, they wouldn't be hitting the wall and running faster than my attainable 3:05.

It's just our culture.....Doing as little as possible and feeling like something is owed to them.

Buying shoes, means something is owed to you? You may be just cheap, if you are a doctor, and begrudge those that choose to purchase $250 shoes.

Get help dude. The world is plenty beautiful, even with those that buy expensive shoes, and walk the last miles of marathons.
