This whole circus highlights the exact issues I have with liberals. Everyone with half a brain knows these allegations are not about sexual assault, they are about politics. I didn't vote for Trump but had the Democrats tried to pull something like this before last election I would have. Now planning on voting for conservatives in November.

Nope. McConnell charged the requirement from 60 to 50 votes. That is why there is a mess. With 60 votes required Kavanugh's name never gets considered.

You don't remember the 7+ women who came out just a few weeks before the election claiming Trump sexually assaulted them? It was front page in the mainstream news for several days. Of course, the reporting on the cases stopped immediately after it was revealed that they all received payments for coming out with their "stories."

There it is! How did I know I would get called a Trump supporter when that isn't close to the truth. I voted for Obama, didn't vote for Trump (didn't vote for Hillary either), and wasn't planning on voting this year until this week. Also by blaming it on the needed votes you just proved my point that this is about politics and not sexual assault...

How hard is it to understand the concept of "innocent until proven guilty"?

* There is no criminal conviction

* There is no criminal charge, even

* The statute of limitations may have run out

* There is no accusation of attempted rape by legal definition (listen to recent Alan Dershowitz interviews)

According to documents posted by Bloomberg reporter Jennifer Epstein, Kavanaugh was involved in an incident on a boat in a Newport, Rhode Island harbor.

“Senator Whitehouse received a call this morning from a Rhode Island constituent [unnamed] who made allegations regarding U.S. Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh. [Unnamed] reported that early on a Sunday morning in August of 1985, a close acquaintance of the constituent was sexually assaulted by two heavily inebriated men she referred to at the time as Brett and Mark.”

Another accusation against Kavanaugh that he was asked about by Senate staffers this week: an alleged rape on a boat in Rhode Island in 1985. Kavanaugh denies.

No way.

I don't see why not. Most lies start small and balloon from there. Sure, it's gotten out of control for her now - and she'll regret that tomorrow - but at the time it started the story was much more manageable. It made her feel important and gave her story some extra credence & importance.

Yes of course, she never had any reason to suspect it would blow up this much. But once she started the story she had to stick with it, and hey - there's no way anyone can really disprove what she's saying, so the risks aren't that grave for her.

There was never any Constitutional or Senate requirement for 60 votes to confirm a nominee. It's always been simple majority.

You're talking about filibuster rules of the Senate, which have gone back & forth many times over the years - changed by both parties when they needed to alter rules to suit their needs. McConnell did it. But so did Harry Reid just a few years earlier. Both parties are gulity.

Only when the votes were below 60. Several SCOTUS members have gotten far more than 60 votes.

Make it 60 votes to get a SCOTUS judge through. The problems go away because either side have to pick people who does not have extreme views.
