I hope Szabo was okay, and that the jumper broke his neck.
Obviously he saw her, and kept running full tilt to knock her down.
Even at the last moment he didn't try to avoid her or slow down.
not so obviously, since he was actually looking down until the last moment before impact.

You dumb ass.
He has his eyes down as he's not 20 yards into his approach, he didn't see her there, the camera angle is tricky. Even the guy in the orange that was watching the track didnt see her entering the area until it was too late. Only a distance runner would think a jumper/sprinter could stop on a dime or always have their eyes up from a start...

Every time we need another reminder that dunes_runner is an idiot, he steps up and supplies one.
Obviously nothing, moron.
He is definitely looking down. You idiots are ridiculous.
Anyone know what meet/ year this was?

Happened at the 2001 Stuttgart indoor Grand Prix, just after Szabo had won the mile. The long-jumper is Kofi Amoah-Prah from Germany. Szabo and Amoah-Prah were back competing within a week, so obviously there was no lasting damage to either of them.
Why would the long jumper purposefully run into someone at full speed when he knows that it could easily result in personal injury? Furthermore, I'm sure he was looking down at the track right up until the moment he ran into her. That's what sprinters do for the first 20m or so. Plus he was running so fast I doubt he had time to stop or get out of the way.
The timing is what makes it funny. Szabo turns, and before she can do anything she gets decked.
Classic!
If I was going to do a jump, I'd definitely check to make sure the runway was clear before starting.
Unless he had absolutely no intelligence, which is certainly in question, he would have at least checked to make sure the runway was clear.
Which makes it appear that he saw her coming and timed his run purposely to run into her and knock her down.
Even at the last split second there was no change in his actions.
dunes runner you must be a girl....defending the girl....how bout how stupid she was for not looking for someone coming down the runway? He was looking down and never saw her until the last second. He jumped in reaction to try and avoid injury. She was the dumb ass not him....and your dumb for defending her and blaming him.
It probably was clear when he started.
Choke yourself.

He DID check. No long jumper starts down the lane with their eyes focused on the ground. They look down while running to keep their surroundings from affecting their concentration or form. Have you ever even watched a long jump in your life?
She walked across several seconds AFTER he was already running. Get it?

What about her? If she was going to walk across the long jump pit, don't you think she should have checked to be sure no one was coming. Unless she had "absolutely no intelligence". Why aren't you castigating her for her obvious attempt to screw up his long-jump.
Of course that's every bit as ridiculous as your idea that the jumper intentionally ran into her, but no idea is too stupid for dunes_runner.

Ah, brilliant! It was all a part of his ingenious plan to knock down the 85 pound white chick. Maybe he thought that was a medal event.
Moron.
