In the USA track/sprints are culturally not popular with whites. Whites in the USA seem to be more interested in baseball, hockey, football, soccer, swimming, water polo, and wrestling all more than they are interested in track. And the ones that do go to track are often the least gifted leftover athletes who run XC and distance because it's a no cut sport.

China, Japan, and some other countries have silent handoffs. American 4x100 teams yell at the handoffs. American technique sucks because American sprinters refuse to spend the time to run a relay using relay techniques that are known to work. That will never change, unfortunately.

Tortu and Lemaitre are very similar builds. Lemaitre may be an inch taller. Lemaitre was only 21 when he ran 9.92 and 19.80.

If Tortu is patiently developed he could be a 9.85 runner.

To clear things up, to LR there are blacks and everyone else is white. So, Italians, Chinese, Middle Easterners, etc are all white.

That's false, the large majority of players in NHL are canadians, Whites in the USA do not care about hockey, they only make 27% of the NHL which is sligthly less than in the NFL (despite the political climate and the overall demographics in that league).

In fact, one of the best athlete in the NFL gave up hockey in his teens because his middle class family could not afford it anymore :

West African sprint prowess comes from the CC version of the Acten3 gene. I would like to echo that you all read the Sport's Gene. Great read and clears a lot of this conversation up. In the last five years, every major racial group (over a 100 million) have a sprinter that has gone under 10.00 seconds. It is good for the sport and a mark of good coaching is spreading across the globe.

As for China still doping and that is why they have improved is silly. China actually has brought over famous American and European coaches to train their athletes. Pierre-Jean Vazel, Loren Seagrave, Tony Venney, and Randy Huntington.

Here is a podcast with Randy that just dropped in the last week. He is now coaching the national record holder from China and has been coaching him since last fall.

As for Europeans mixing with Neanderthals. According to genetic research, Italians have the highest percentage of Neanderthals DNA markers.

As an American athlete a lot of fast white kids play all the sports mentioned in this thread and that limits the talent pool greatly. As a high school coach every year there is five to six fast girls that choose soccer of track. Those numbers add up.

Lamaitre is about 4" taller than Tortu, their builds are not similar, and Tortu might not be the fastest sprinter, but his running form is superb. You could never say that about Lamaitre. But to many, all those white people look alike.

Interesting how letsrun posters the past 1 1/2 years or so only bring up Sports Gene book regarding black sprinters/jumpers. All supporters of David Epstein currently are ignoring his writing regarding east African genetic superiority regarding events 800m to Marathon. I am not part of the group hunting for PED users in east Africa. I do read their posts. Hmmm...you claim sprinting success is down to one single gene that West African's possess at a greater frequency than other races, but that China's improvement is down to coaching.

The Chinese were gene doping back in 2008.

Except that France were winning medals well before Karabatic came in. Karabatic-like players are dime and dozen in ex-Yugoslavia yet these country are not as successful.

Thank you, you just proved how clueless you were. You just named one the HIGHEST paid handball player in the World. I can name several athletes in niche sports which earn more than that (even in track). Should I use Usain Bolt wages in order to prove that track athletes are balling ? The average gross wage in France's top handball league is about 7000€/months (remove 22% to get the net wage). In a rather wealthy country, this is absolutely nothing, for a career that will last less than 10 years (and not every retired athlete become a top coach or a color commentator).

Trollio 1/10 The sprint gene is the main factor.... yes. West African athletes in Africa, Jamaica, and North America have had good coaching for a while with good genetic frequency. That is a great combo. The Chinese do not have the frequency of the gene but recently in their statewide program, they have brought in a lot of the coaches that used to coach in the West to maximize their results on the track with the few athletes who do have the right combination of gifts, work, and health. Again please listen to the podcast of Randy Huntington. You know the guy who coached world record holders in the triple and long jump? He now coaches in China. He is getting great results. If you assume they were doping in the past and they are doping now what would be the difference in their international success? Coaching.
