I didn't mention anything about a particular time. It's just that going out at a faster pace, even for just the first 5k, is a sub-optimal strategy for running your best time in a marathon. It's clear he's going for time and not the win. He should sit back on a hot pace from the start if he wants to comfortably get the British record. I don't care if he does or doesn't get that record, but his poorly thought out strategy of, "yeah, I guess I'll go with them no matter what, why not?" is idiotic.

So it's clear he's going for time?, wrong, he's said he's going to mix it whatever the pace, you don't do that if it's clear you're going for time, if you were going for time you'd go out at the pace to get the time you've clearly set yourself. If anything it indicates he's going with the elite pack whatever the pace and that a sub 2:07:13 British record will come with it whatever happens or die (metaphorically speaking) in the process.

Main difference is if more UK runners went to "train" in Ethiopia they would likely have a bunch of guys at 3:26-3:27 for the 1500 and 2:03-2:05 for the marathon.

How can his aim and strategy be at odds, if he mixes it with the big boys and pulls it off then he'll get the British record, even if dies in the arse big time there's still a good chance he'll get it, FMD it's only 2:07:13.

If he said he was going out at 2:07 pace with the sole intention of breaking the record we'd never hear the end of it from you lot, of course it would be worse if it was Ruppy, that poor bugger never gets an even break on LR.

How many of the American records would Mo hold over 1500 to marathon? I'm sure this has come up before but he must be close to most of them

Mo doesn't hold the UK mile or 2,000m record (nor the 800m or 1km, though you specifically said above 1500m). His 3:28 was in Monaco, times there seem to be 2s quicker than everywhere else. His best 5k was also done in Monaco. He really has dominated 3k-1/2 Marathon.

What does it say about Kenya that all its track records from 1km to 10,000m were set before an epo test was developed?

Sentence is meaningless. Even I can sit on WR pace for a short distance. Perhaps you mean "he can't sit on WR pace for a whole marathon". Well jeez what a surprise, neither can anyone else at London.

Now tell us something interesting. Like, at what mile points will each of the other contenders drop from WR pace?

Mo should retire, he has no chance of winning any of the marathons except the B-level so-called "majors" that the fastest runners avoid. He won't be able to handle not winning, even in Britain where the hero worship thing will quickly wear thin when he is always at least 4 minutes out of 1st.

Same deal with Rupp, who also should have quit on a high note. If you're going to compete at a lower level for years after winning it all, at least pick your best events. Rupp was about the best 10,000 runner in the world, and "moved up" to an event where he's about #100.

He should be thoroughly investigated
