Michael Mooney who got 2nd in the 3200 (8:50.96) is the twin brother of Madison Mooney (4:49.92) who got 2nd in the mile (and won last year).
Maybe more impressive is he was Colorado soccer player of the year as well.
He's running at Colorado State next year. Sister is going to Wisconsin.

James Lee who got 2nd was #2 in the country outdoors this year with a 4:12.13 but that really doesn't mean that much as the Northeast kids are just getting going outdoors and a lot of people ran sub 4:10 indoors but weren't in the race. But Culpepper crushed the guys in this race.

This is the first time there has been 4 girls in sub-10:00 shape for 2M. And no seniors. Incredible depth.

What a difference one year makes. Last year was an amazing year for HS boy distance running. Arcadia was won in 8:41 (Teare). 25 boys under 9:00 in the invitational heat and 2 boys under 9 in the seeded heat (won in 8:58.7) last year.
This year, the winner ran 8:50.95 (that would have been good for 13th place last year) and only 16 boys went sub 9.

I mean last year was one of the greatest year in high school distance running. Can't expect that every year.
Might happen but probably not at the state meet because it's the last distance event of the weekend and Mooney and Dillon are in the higher classification. St vrain meet the week before state might be the best chance for fresh legs to race together. Usually Broomfield niwot and silver Creek are all there. Someone has to lead though, Mooney is the only one I see taking up the pace.

Culpepper ran really quick and as a sophomore, so I shouldn't fault him, but I was bothered by how much he was looking over his shoulder in the last 100m. Also, his last lap was very fast, but did his form look a bit funny to anyone else?
And not only kept looking over his shoulder, but his left shoulder, which made no sense as he was hugging the rail in lane 1. Almost like he was wanting to see the official lift his white flag. Only at the very end to he glance once over his right.

yeah from the video it appears they were honest-to-god normal trainers, not some cushion-y flats or something. Really impressive.

Why would you fly across the country to run in trainers. Seems disrespectful if she’s healthy and stupid if she’s nursing a little injury.
