Vipam..which event did you run?
You're full of it dude. 1:18-1:20 would be 93-96% effort. You would not have time recover.

my 800 PR is 1:47.xx. I was never that much of a half miler, more of a 400 - 600m runner and my distance base suck. These kinds of workouts were done only once a week for a 3-4 week period, and believe it or not, we did these "in-season" These workouts were geared toward "physical failure" (as one coach put it). It's like lifting weights to "failure." I really did not know why we did workouts like these, but I do know I did them and they were MF'ers. For some reason, I always ran "better" in practice than in meets...I wonder why? ;)
My PR's are as follows:
200 - 22.8
300 - 35.xx
400 - 46.63
500 - 62.xx
600 - 1:15.xx
800 - 1:47.xx
800m
What time did you run…based on your previous post and your knowledge…I think you’re a 1.45/1.46 guy. I stand to be corrected.

I'm going to call BS on these PRs
If you ran 46.63 you would have come through 300 in 34.9. With a PR of 46.63, you should be WAY faster over 200m and 300m that what you have put down. You 200 PR is pretty bad considering your 400 PR as well.
My teammate Douglas K. was the 1:45/1:46 guy, my best is 1:48 and I think Clevon ended up running 1:46 low. Everyone including my teammates and coaches thought I should have run much faster but I enjoyed running and didn't enjoy competing at all.
Now that I have finally have the urge/thirst to compete and not just run I'm back training.
The reason for grouping the intervals into sets with small rests is answered by one of Canada's all time greatest middle and long distance running coaches:
"Adaptation takes place in the interval"!

I truly respect your contribution on this forum. I had a respectable success in the 400 ih but, I enjoyed running the 800 as well.
Thank you for those kind words.
What were your times in those events and
what do you think of the quote?
Q
My Opinion…You seem to be very Knowledgeable in track and field issues/facts. Just out of criouisity mighty one? Ever hard of a dude know as Samson Kitur from a tiny east African costal country know as Kenya?
Well below are his PR’s
200m- 21.7 (H)
400m- 44.18(A)
Should I stop there….Nah!
My younger brother never broken 50 point in the 400m flat and below are his Pr’s
200-23.00
400m-50.9(Outdoors)
400mIH-50.73
Do the math Einstein coz I want an answer!
@ qucassidy
100-10.78
200-21.20
400-45.98
400ih-49.36
800-1.48.90
1500-3.55
8k-25.58
Decathlon-7150-freshman
sorry qucassidy, but I think the question was why do people do sets of intervals instead of just doing them straight out (ie. 3x3x300m instead of 9x300m). The answer to this is so that you can obviously run them faster, but so that instead of just cruising the last 2or3 of the session, you cain yourself at the start of the session (ie. you would aim to be tired after #3 because you have a big rest).... then you come back and cain yourself again, then get a rest.
Basically, you build up all the lactic at the start of the session and have to run with it for longer, as opposed to reeling them off constantly and going more aerobic.
800m Workout Worth Noting:
4x400m 3:00recovery...... 57,56,56,55..... ran 1:55 5days later
6x300m 2:00recovery..... 42s average (for 1:55 runner)

Yeah, but people hardly ever race over 300m, and when they do it's usually pre-season.

Well, it is obvious your brother has no idea how to run an open 400m. He would be the first person I ever meet that runs faster in the 400m hurdles than they do open. It makes absolutely no sense 'Einstein' and the only answer I can give you for that is inexperience and your brother has no idea what he was doing racing the open 400m. Did he negative split the open 400?

Try this buddy….a week before Ncaa champs our coach had this for us, an all out 600 then take a two min rest and then do an all out 200.The first guy dropped like 1.16.xx/24xx with the slow guy finishing in 1.18/26…thinking we were done the coach told us to go for a 30 minutes cool down, and come back to the track.
The evil dude had us do another all out 600/200…..needless to say the times weren’t anything to write home about.
Was that at Penn State?
5 days before i ran my pb. 1.52 did 4*400 with 5 minutes recovery in 56,55,54,53
3x400m with 6 min recovery (51.5/52.4/51.9)
good for me since I never broke 50 sec for the quarter
I was never really an 800m runner but I ran a few races. (pr 1.51.11). Eventually a became a steepler
Hey, Iten I have a question or two that I'd like to ask you, if you don't mind...could you give me your e-mail address or just e-mail me at Ghj678ry@Aol.com...thanks
