Same info going around a different Letsrun thread. Someone noticed that on the UCF track and field website, there was no listing for any of their full time coaches. This could be an error, or UCF just could have fired the entire staff. I am not sure what to make of any of this.

The rumors are true. UCF AD Danny White has fired track and field and cross country coaches Jeanette Bolden and Johnny Gray. Asst Erin Gilreath is the interim coach as a national search starts asap.

Two sources very close to the UCF track and field program gave me quotes. One said: "It's an ethics matter," and the other said: "Jeanette and Johnny really messed up this time."
To me, these quotes don't mean anything. But maybe the truth will come out real soon.

It really depends on the school and job. Some schools that take Indoor track seriously will try and have a coach in place before January 1st. Other schools will wait until after the new year to complete all of the hiring, and then name their coach in mid to late January. The search, interview, and hiring process can take anywhere from 4-8 weeks, depending on the urgency of the coaching position.
Since we're approaching the start of a new year with a new thread, maybe those more experienced can weigh in on what makes an attractive candidate for these jobs. Perhaps a ranking of importance of:
a) years of coaching experience;
b) coaching titles held (head coach v. assistant coach v. volunteer asssistant/GA);
c) level of experience (DI v. DIII; P5 v. Mid-Major; etc.);
d) level of success (championships, historic performances, etc);
e) references/endorsements/recommendations;
f) athletic background (collegiate athlete; former Olympian; etc)
g) training/coaching philosophy;
h) cultural fit with the school and other staff
i) anything else I may be forgetting.

Macgregor wanted the auburn job and did not get it. He did not recruit the already talented samford team. He wants to leave beacuase once the stud and studette leave he will have no one to coach and he realizes that Recruiting was not good last year and not good this year. So jump ship while your stock is up as opposed to down.

Wow. That is fairly big news. Shane always seemed like a stand up guy to me, I did not know him well.

Yale - Pat McGregor (based on what others have said)
Creighton - Eric Harasyn (Currently director of operations at Iowa State, was a sub 4 miler)
UCF - Griff Graves (currently an operations assistant at Florida State. Previously volunteer at App State and ran for Zap Fitness)
Eastern Washington - Paul Limpf (currently assistant distance coach at SUU but ran for Eastern and was a volunteer there)
I would think whoever is hited as next Head TRACK coach at UCF would have some day on who is their next assistance (Distance) coach.

Do you think now that the UCF position will be available McGregor would be more interested in that than going to Yale as an assistant distance coach and director of ops?
Don’t overlook the fact that being a power5 director of ops is a better job than being a lowly non-major distance-only cc coach. Probably double the pay and you don’t even coach! C’mon man!

you are right in that the talent level severely drops off after his top athlete for each gender. it would be a smart move for mcgregor to use his success last year to get a job at a bigger school - his value on the job market is highest right after he coached the national champion.
that said, i think he is extremely overqualified for this yale job. maybe it would be an increase in pay, but not in responsibility and that would result in him getting stuck there for a while. it's surprising that he wasn't able to find a coaching job somewhere bigger. maybe he screwed up a bunch of interviews.
my guess is that he's using this yale thing as leverage to get a pay raise. i'd be completely shocked if he accepted the offer.

HIGHLY doubtful an assistant coach In the SoCon with limited coaching experience, would be pegged as a HEAD Track coach at UCF in the American Athletic Conference.
HE may be interested but would UCF be interested in HIM? Doubtful.
Considering the last coach came from UCLA, they may expect the same: EXPERIENCE
I doubt anyone is suggesting McGregor would be the HEAD coach just the distance coach
