jordan's time to first was more likely a result of inexperience swinging and running out of the batter box.....there's a quote about him being really fast running bases, just had a relatively slow time to first. considering that 4.0 is considered elite, it's easy to imagine him being .3 seconds slower than average getting out of the batter's box.
plus he stole 30 bases in only 127 games, that's almost 40 sb pace.....and sb are about baseball smarts almost much as they are about speed, and due to almost zero experience we have to assume he wasn't getting his steals from his baseball smarts. He might have even lead the his league in steals that year. and this was at 31.....anyone who watched Jordan knew he was an entirely differently athlete when he was 21-23. Elite athlete at 31.....almost unmatched in basketball history at 21.
Lebron was measured at 20.1 on a fast break, which is below his top speed considering he goes coast to coast in 7-8 steps, not enough room to reach peak speed. That's 11.1 100 speed........
by eye it's tough to tell, but I think most people would consider a young jordan to be faster than LeBron.
Analyzing baseball stole base speed and analyzing speed on a basketball court is not close to 100m. That's 30 yds. and a bit less than 30 yards for a basketball court. I'm not adding LBJ to the debate. MJ never had FAT sub-11.00 100m speed. I noticed you did not compare MJ's sprinting speed to Allen Iverson's sprinting speed; you did not compare MJ's sprinting speed to Gary Payton's sprinting speed.
