"What are some of your unusual personal records?"
Well, it is a personal record.
Actually a 78rpm (Columbia A-2441) from about April 1917
sung by George O'Connor, called
"They May Call You Hawaiian On Broadway."
It's actually a politically incorrect song today. It's not
even accessible through various archives and youtube nor
are its lyrics. But here goes the most unusual personal record.
Rare and tough to find.
Here are the lyrics, reproduced for the first time in internet history.
Mo' Walker was a high yellow ni@@!! from down in dixieland.
And he got a job as a ukulele picker in a real Hawaiian band
One night while he was playing and a singing does the shores
that lady wail.
A woman's voice up in the gallery was heard to loudly say,
Just because you pick a ukulele and say 'wiki' now and then.
And wear a whatchamacallit it around your neck.
Your ain't foolin' your old friend.
You may slick your hair with cocoa butter till its shiny as can be.
They may call you Hawaiian on Broadway but your just
a plain nI@@!! to me.
The same Hawaiian band was a playin' in the high tone cabaret.
For the dances by the imported dusky maidens from that
far off island way
All went well until the hula lady who was born in Bornee-mo
Wriggles up to Mo's and she asks of him
How's your folk on the Eastern shore?
Just because you pick a ukulele and say 'wiki' now and then.
And wear a whatchamacallit it around your neck.
Your ain't foolin' your old friend.
You may slick your hair with cocoa butter till its shiny as can be.
They may call you Hawaiian on Broadway but your just
a plain nI@@!! to me.
