The ARRS people are pretty hot on working out if races are short by statistical analysis of the times those who competed did compared to what they have done before.
In this case, I do believe that the course had to have been short. 60:24 was way beyond Hawkins' expectations and past performances. About a minute short probably.
I could tell that the course was short after comparing all my mates' GPS data. We used to get readings of 13.3 miles for the GSR. This year it was 13.0 or even 12.9 miles in some instances. I know GPS is not super accurate, but I am making this judgement based on comparison, not the actual data point of a single GPS.

Callum ran a great race but the course was mis-marked based on previous measurements and is in fact 340 meters short! He probably ended up with something close to '101:40' give or take a few seconds.

Forget about the course map, it's irrelevant. It was wrong, but the course ran was still slightly different to that of previous years:
I've measured out the two differing sections from 2015-2016. The start and finish were at the same points in both years. In theory, the two sections added together from each year should be equal.

What???? Are you kidding me? There's a huge difference there - to cut the 'Pacific Drive' chunk out and then call only a 1.5752 vs.1.4476 difference is crazy! The 2015 course was way longer - '340 meters' longer actually!
Again, Hawkins is a great guy but he wouldn't have run 60:24 on that 2015 course for certain.
Don't misquote my post please - They did add distance elsewhere, just not enough. Try reading the post again and you'll see how I end up at the 0.12 mile difference.
And here's an end to end mapping of the altered 2016 route. This shows it to be 0.101 miles short, however this is a generous estimate of the distance since:
-The line stays over 1m from inside of all corners
-In the parks the line follows the middle of the paths
(most of it was mapped manually from GPS recordings, memory of my own run of the course, TV footage, this is exactly what was ran on the day.)
