I sort of feel sorry for this guy. His record, which he thinks is one of the biggest moments in his life, stood for less than a day and was broken by someone without all the fancy support.

He reminds me of the guy who always brags about a 3:40 marathon, not realizing that 1000s of men, women, and children do that every year.

You obviously NEVER thru hiked the Appalachian Trail. There are certain sections where going 3 miles an hour as a sustainable pace is pretty much impossible, I don't care who you are. The miles aren't created equal on the AT. Then you've got to factor the added miles to go off trail for resupplies because she claims to be unsupported. This woman's story is total BS and has as many holes in it as swiss cheese. The AT has a history of women record holders and the current REAL unsupported record holder, Anish, is a woman.

This is absolutely pitiful.. I'm disgusted that someone would even try to pull a stunt like this to get limelight.. There is NO CHANCE she did what she claimed to have done.. This women has some sort of personality disorder and is messed in the head.. Now she is affecting other people with her claims..

People like this will never admit they lied and cheated. They will ask to be believed by the public and the ones who don't believe them are "wrong." Good thing that FKT's burden of proof relies on actual verifiable data.. Any person that has an ounce of critical thinking skills will see through this and see it as the farce it is..

She is like a Lance Armstrong except her record won't ever be legitimized as real unlike Lance's Tour de France "wins."

Do you think by "not supported" she just meant she was going bra-less like in the photos?

I actually met Kaiha (Ninja) on a section hike back in late March/early April. We and several other people got snowed-in at Wayah Shelter so we sat around for hours talking. At that point, she was telling us how she had been on the trail for over a month already and how she had done acid on the trail.

Then she she's sees that the trail is full of joe/jill. So then she sets out to make up this story about breaking the record to convince herself that she's better than the joe/jill who is walking the trail.

She's not going to convince anybody because she can't convince herself of anything either. She's a liar but she's also a very wounded person.

Did lance not complete the TdF? Or are you saying this girl used some sort of PEDs?

Lance did win the Tour de France 7 times, riding the whole thing while being documented carefully by thousands of spectators and cameras and officials with actual verifiable data. He cheated by using PEDs. He did eventually admit that he lied and cheated.

Other than that, your analogy is spot on.

I am not saying that I believe this lady, but it seems like there is a lot of room to cut time in these attempts. The longest hike I have ever done is 50 miles over 4 days, so I am by no means a thru-hiker, but reading the accounts of Metzler and Jurek, it seems like they spent a good amount of time sleeping and prepping and looking around.

What if you just said "fvck it" and spent 45 days in absolute hell... moving in one direction and only sleeping when you absolutely HAD to? I realize you would probably get sick and/or injured, but you might also make it through in record time.

Also, it might take a real psycho to attempt/accomplish something like that... and Jurek and Metzler seem a little too normal while this Ninja girl seems like she has a few screws loose.

Again, not defending the naked ninja girl, but FWIW... but I also agree that her pictures don't necessarily indicate someone who has been going 50+ mpd for over a month...

Yeah you're right. That wasn't a good analogy whatsoever..

My point is that she will try to deceive the public for as long as possible like Lance Armstrong. He did eventually fess up but it was once he was caught unequivocally. I was just trying to draw a connections between his PED attempts and her fabrication of a story.. I missed the mark.

Karl actually states that he didn't spend time looking around or prepping this time around. She would have had to spend A TON of more time prepping because she was self-supported.

It sounds like Karl did sleep only when necessary. No messing around. He was asleep within 30 mins of finishing and started 30 mins after waking up. We have proof this young lady did have some time just hanging around sometimes smoking and drinking throughout the day.

Did she go under another name at one point, like "Jill Greathouse?"

This is kind of what I think too. The one thing that always bothered me following these attempts is that I thought one could simply not sleep a lot and destroy the record you didn't need any kind of speed whatsoever so I'm sympathetic to that. That said, no way she does it with her background, carrying her own stuff no less, looking unworn. I do see the record going down though following that kind of recipe with support.

I get it. I know what you're saying. Metzler does say that he slept like 7-9 hours a night though, which is a lot of time. I guess Jurek was the one checking things out and looking around... I did read the interviews and recaps.

My point was not that I think she did it, but that someone might be able to just throw caution to the wind and go on like 3 hours of sleep a night and just crush it. Sure, they might not make it through alive but you never know. I am sure some folks suffering through forced death marches throughout history have made it through harsher conditions with less sleep/food/etc.

What if this girl is so crazy that she really did it? Chances are less than 1%, maybe lower, but what if...? That was all I was saying.

Wounded is the operative word. She looks and sounds like she has some social and pyschological issues, and not just from the alleged sexual assault. I don't think she realizes the intense scrutiny under which she just put herself. It's one thing to claim 45 or 50 mile days to a few hikers every now and then on the trail as you booze and cig it up. But to proclaim publicly on social media that you just broke all the AT records is a whole other matter. This could get ugly and cruel because she trampled and disregarded the hard work of others like Metzler, Jurek, JPD, Anish, and Matt. This girl needs some friends and mentors to give her some guidance with her life.

Hillary is in perfect health and never deleted 30,000 emails!!!!! Yep yep....

She cheated too strongly...like a marathon course cutter that does a 2:01 marathon. Had she just squeaked under the old unsupported record it might seem slightly more plausible.
