My last comment. How in the world can Semenya respect herself with all this controversy around her sex and testosterone levels? How can you show your face in public when 99.999% of those viewing believe you don't deserve to even be in the event let alone get a medal for beating the women? When your fellow competitors revile you how can you even toe the line with them?

Gotta say, if I was a chick I'd step up to the 1500m. This is a real shame for Bishop and the others.

BTW, check out Kratochvilova sometime. She looked every bit as mannish, more so in fact, than Semenya and was part of the notorious Eastern Bloc doping program from the 70s and 80s. Another "female" who doesnt deserve the recognition she has received.

Pretty sure Bishop is the female clean un-doped world record holder at 1:57.02

While I may empathize somewhat with Castor,I agree that she should not compete in a gender specific running events. Does anyone doubt that her genetic makeup gave her an unfair advantage?

If she really wanted to advance the transgender movement, the honorable thing would be for her NOT to race realizing that (1) she had an unfair advantage and (2) it would not reflect well on other transgenders.

That's right. They had that word generations before DDT was invented because there was a prophecy that one day there will be a spirit that destroys mosquitos and that spirit will result in male/female hybrids born in the future.

I do give you that a male child born with a common birth defect in a richer country would probably have been operated on in the more expensive, complicated way so as to enable them to live as a male. But that should not be a reason to ruin the sport for half the world's population.

I appreciate the post above ... fair comment. But I disagree with the conflation of women with a given testosterone level. The line drawn isn't simply nanomoles per liter. Or is it?

No, but it's one factor. In this case she has high testosterone AND testicles, no uterus, male bone structure, lung capacity etc. Is most likely XY and was simply assigned female at birth incorrectly due to the testicles being internal and no obvious external male genitalia.

The testosterone level was used as a marker to reduce to allow her (and similar women) to continue to compete as a compromise, now even that limit has gone.

Each situation is different and hers is different from the other 800m runners, Dutee Chand etc as the conditions are not all the same.

As I believe drawing a line is the only way to protect the integrity of women's sport, I don't think it should be testosterone levels alone but a combination of factors ie chromosomes, reproductive organs, hormone level etc.
