Looks like Kiprop is smarter than he is given credit for.

So Centro must be in 140-41 shape. I hope he finds an 800 soon!
calculo wrote:maloofi ran intrinsic in 800 semi
~ 1'42-flat !!
in final, he ran intrinsic
~ 1'41-high !!!
i will bet my bottom $$$, that he came into this meet in 1-off - "zurich 800" shape of
~ 1'40-mid/high
except he ran dumb in rounds, putting in something like ~ 24.6 !!! intrinsic finish in his semi of ~ 1'43.1 which was worth ~ 1'42-flat at worst off 2s +ve splits pace
for Asbel, who is probably in 1'41+ shape, this might not be enough for win, unless maloofi has been hugely wrecked by 800 efforts
Asbel will need to be in
1'40+
shape to outkick maloofi today !!!
Caculo has done it… again. Centro absolutely DESTROYED KIPROP (and Andy on the ground as well.) and MAK DADDY. CENTRO WAS IN THE LEAD…FOR 1500M OUT OF 1500M.
Conclusion:
1) TOTAL DOMINATION BY CENTRO!!!
GO CENTRO!!!
(Ridiculo calculo.)
Congrats to Centro, but has Kiprop been interviewed yet? This is the biggest story of the games. His huge flop in the 1500. Maybe he really was at the beach the day before and lost focus or got injured surfing?
What happened? The silence is deafening.
congrats to centro but wrote:

The guy who was supposed to take his pee test had to fly back to Kenya a bit early. Unfortunate.

What happened to Kam?
Was he sick? What was going on?
Why was the number of Kenyan men in the Olympic 5000m final a total of: ZERO?
Were they all sick? What was going on?
Do you think something weird was going on?
What do you think it was?

Kam and Karoki flopped at the trials but were still put on the team, that's what happened. To do this, guys who had actually qualified for the 5k were bumped off the team in order to placate those who'd actually qualified for the 10k. Backfired spectacularly on AK.
If I remember correctly, Kiprop started an early move and his countryman tried to follow but got tripped up. Kiprop then fell back into the pack. He may have noticed something happened back there to Kwemoi and decided not to push the pace at that time to give his teammate a chance back in. That's what I thought was happening at the time I saw it.

I talked to Andy Arnold in Kenya this morning. ARnold was packing up to return to the states. Arnold said it's been hard to watch much of the olympics as it's on at like 3-4 am.
In terms of the 1500, Arnold said he talked to Kiprop last week. Kiprop told him, "It's an Olympic final - anyone can win." When talking about the other two Kenyans Kiprop was concerned about Manangoi's kick in the last 100 as he's got a great close. As for Kwemoi, Arnold said he was very strong and a threat if the pace was hot but he didn't think it would be hot.
According to Arnold, when talking about the non Kenyans, Kiprop said you never know what type of Makhloufi is going to show up. Kiprop said that Centro has shown himself to be in great shape this year. Kiprop said if you are with Centro with 100 meters left it's very dangerous as he's got great tactics and a great close but from 500 to 300 out not that strong.
Missed on this one. manangoi out, kwemoi fell, kiprop raced horribly. Centro looked pretty good holding off the pack from 300-500 out
...
In terms of the marathon, Arnold said that many guys over there view Kipchoge as being unbeatable. Arnold said that he talked to Kipchoge a week or two ago for the first time and was blown away. "I've never met a guy more focused in my life. He had almost a monkish discipline," said Arnold.
Al lof that being said, Arnold said some guys were talking up Stanley Biwott for the upset as he used to race in Brazil a lot and is a proven hot weather runner.
I then asked him about Wesley Korir and he said that everyone just laughs and thinks his selection was some sort of political/publicity stunt.
Spot on with the marathon!
