Of course he recanted his statements, he is protecting his career. If you make a living providing PEDs to athletes, no one is going to work with you if you run your mouth off the way that guy did.
Perhaps he did embellish, he is a salesman after all, but his excuse of "testing" Collins is complete bs. What was he trying to test? He sold the drugs to Collins anyway, so I take it Collins passed whatever "test" Sly was trying to throw his way.
Furthermore, if you combine what Sly said with the fact that a current MLB player met with him on camera, to take D2, you can see that there is atleast some credibility to the statements he made. Combine that with the other comments from the other doctors on the show, and a pretty damning picture of professional sports as a whole is created.
I wouldn't say this is surprising at all, but it is good to see that this is getting some publicity. Hopefully people read between the lines here. The general public needs to wake up at some point.

I understand what you are saying but the leagues want this under their control. They want to control who gets busted and the. give out short sentences. The NBA has guys playing up to 100 games per year and no one of note is ever busted because the testing regime is so easy. I think Rashard Lewis of all people was the one guy who got busted. The NFL is worse, it's like the WWE.
All team sports are a joke when it comes to this (this is probably true of soccer too). Track and cycling actually try much harder to have clean sports but, sadly, it looks like IAAF has screwed up lots of testing over the last decade and even covered up tests. The NFL, MLB, nba and NHL should all turn things over to WaDA. That'll probably will not happen unless laws are passed to criminalize doping.

I think Goodell only made a move when he was forced to, and then made one that made him "look tough" but that he knew was actually just a slap on the wrist that had no impact on anything important.
Sidenote: What would the NFL have done if it turned out that every team was deflating footballs? Changed the rule to allow for it, or punish everyone?

To my knowledge, not one. Their goal is to keep their best players on the field for as long as they can. They do not care what the player does or takes off the field. It is all about winning and keeping the owners happy, which is done by winning.

(1) This is being put out there by the same news group that put Comical Ali on the air during the second Iraq War (anyone remember how the Americans were suiciding themselves at the gates of Baghdad?). (2) The person who supposedly supplied the drugs recanted his testimony and nothing has been under oath. If he indeed did send HGH to the Mannings, there is a record of it, and his license can be revoked as it is a felony. (3) Even if he had used HGH, he would only be subject to a 4 game suspension (he sat out that entire season). (4) Peyton isn't really known for throwing fastballs, if your not throwing the ball more than 10 yards down the field, I'm not sure how much of a help HGH would provide. (5) He doesn't have any other signs of HGH use (other than his gigantic cranium, which he has had since his Tennessee days). (6) Quite honestly, if an athlete is trying to recover from an injury, there really shouldn't be an issue with a doctor prescribing them medicine to heal them, as nobody would question if any other human on the planet were written a prescription by a doctor for any other ailment.
Let me first say that I taught Payton Manning. Although he missed a fair number of classes, his work, work ethic, diligence, just everything about him screamed excellence. This was back when I was a TA in 95. All of that said, I wouldn't be surprised - at all - if the allegations were true.

Joe: Google Ben Johnson, watch the 30 for 30 about him and, when you have, come back here and defend a rewriting of what you wrote with Peyton Manning replaced by Ben Johnson and HGH replaced by steroids. (along with a few other minor changes....) See if you still agree with the statement then.
Drugs are a pox on sport. They endanger the participants, they corrupt everyone involved and, they even critically endanger the all important bottom line: sport relies on a certain mythology for its popularity. If it ever became widely known that the all time greats were that not because of only hard work and determination but because they had access to the best doctors, then the whole thing crumbles. I know it's easy to say 'everyone in the NFL does it' And we know that's probably true. But, widespread knowledge of it doesn't help the sport, and the fact of it doesn't make it right.

I wouldn't put someone trying to recover from an injury on the same plane as a healthy athlete. Obviously Peyton had a very real injury if he underwent multiple surgeries and spent a whole year on the sidelines. Ben Johnson was just using stuff to get ahead, and it was obvious to everyone that he was on something. Take one look at Peyton and his dad bod and tell me you see someone who is juicing. Put another way, if you were to put the other 31 starting QBs in the league in a line-up and try to identify which one was using PEDs, he would probably be the 32nd one you would identify. The thing that makes him special is his ability to identify where to throw the ball, not how fast it gets there. If you just look at the physical signs of HGH use, they are not there. If you want to see someone who has used HGH, look at the sprinters and NFL players in the 90s with adult braces. I guess today they just use invisalign.

I'd say a 4 game suspension, $1M fine, and loss of 1st round draft pick is more than just a slap on the wrist.

Rojo you should know what explosive is because I've read it on your website. The ARD videos, Russian bribery, IAAF delaying sanctions until after major events; those were explosive stories. This story looks like it got butchered in the editing room unfortunately. Even if none of the allegations stick (and I don't think they will) at least it got the attention of average Americans who have been largely ignoring all the other stuff going on.
