Kiprops doesn't need to know what a lactate load is, but when he and his team sat down, they wanted to change the game up. Everyone is assuming he tripped and the. Decided to fall back, but if you look at the tape it was apparent that he tripped because he was falling back...he slowed and got clipped. Kiprop admitted as much in the quote of the day. It isn't toying with the field as much as testing th field.

Yeah right that's what happened. It was completely unplanned and I doubt he knows the first thing about lactate load.

Look at how they all bunched when Kiprop was at the back. Not a front runner or leader among them ...all were racing for 2nd place before the gun started
Totally agree. I don't know what all the fuss is about. Kiprop's closing speed was nothing special. What was more startling was the lacklustre performances from Centrowitz and especially Souleiman. His 1500 form is not as good as his 800 at the moment.
It was a slow race. Kiprop ran about 6m extra so it was at best a 3:54 flat performance. He also had about 580m with no drafting, so that brings it down to 3:53. That's only 3:36 1500 pace. His last 400m was 54.5 (53.6 without running wide), last 200 26.8.
Souleiman had practically full drafting and ran no extra distance. He could only manage closing in 55.0, 27.1 and 13.5 on las lap. That certainly isn't what a sub 3:30 guy should be doing in a 3:55 mile! And he looked all out as he entered the straight. It doesn't fit in with form shown in Monaco over a week ago.

He got clipped, stumbled hard and lost places, and instead of panicking and muscling back up along the rail he slowed to let the back go by so he could come around outside.
Dude, he was already slowing down when he got clipped. He was slowing right back into the dense pack of runners behind him. Maybe he went a little further back after that to clear the back of the pack after the clip... but the crazy speed burst and then dramatic slow-down was definitely his doing, not just a reaction to getting clipped.
Yeah, the quote on the front of the page says it all to those who thought he "just got clipped." He was playing the field looking for a championship test. I think it will back fire to be honest. He is showing his cards to the rest of the field, but maybe not. Just hope he doesn't fall in a championship race. Especially with his long stride. That would be a shame. I think if he made it an honest race he could win just as well.

How the F*** is that going to backfire?
He ran a 3:26 last week and decimated nearly all of his competitors. Was "showing his cards" that way going to backfire now? Will Silas run a 3:25 for the win in August?
In London he gave a fully drafted Suleiman and Centrowitz maybe 15m lead with 600m to go, passed the entire F***ing pack to take the lead in about 5 strides, and then slowed down once again out of sheer boredom to be passed by Blankenship. Then he moved 1.5 lanes over and opened up a 7m lead over the last 80m. He practically could not have run a more stupid race, and still destroyed the field. He could have dropped and done a max set of pushups (looking at him, probably about 3 or 4) on the track and still won.
How exactly is this going to backfire?
Yes, other than the bizarre and stupid nature of the race AK ran, the other big takeaway from this race was the total lack of stones among the rest of the field. They were indeed all running for second, even after he stumbled and went to the back. What is this, the Tour de France? Wait for the guy who's having a tire problem?
If the rest of the field takes the same approach to worlds, not only will AK win easily, but the final will be slow, it will suck as a race worth watching, and the poster who said they should all just not even bother to board their planes will have been exactly right.
Thank you for exactly proving my whole point. I didn't have to do much debating at all. Kiprop gave everyone "another look" and surprised most of them if not all of them. Hence the term showing his cards. If any of his competitors are smart they will look at the tape and maybe learn some things that might give themselves a better opportunity to beat kiprop. It may all be a moot point because kiprop is that good, but if I was competing against him I would say thanks for showing another hand. In a tactical race the best runner doesn't always win, but I don't need to tell you that, I'm sure you know that. The more surprises you have up your sleeve the better. Kiprop just lost a little bit of that.

F*** no he didn't lose anything, he won the damn race in a tactical fashion over the last 100m the same way nearly every race he's won has been run.

Well, you are oblivious if you think that this race was ran as expected. Even the announcers thought maybe he was injured or something. His tactics were the surprise not his finish or his strength and speed!!! Hello Mcfly?.... You there?? It's obvious he is in the best shape and the fastest runner on the track in that field.
I will tell you exactly what his competitors can learn from that. They can respond with a surge of there own if he drops back, they can do a number of tactical maneuvers if they know what he is doing.
***Disclamer**** The tactics might not work because kiprop is that good. But they can put themselves in a better position if they know what kiprop is up to. That is my point. I'm not arguing time or speed. Kiprop is ahead of everyone.

He looked great and totally comfortable the whole time. Not toying, but not challenged much either. Centro looked quite good, too -- setting aside for the moment that he lost by a meter to Kiprop, who is in or near WR form right now.
As someone who was there (and believe me - I have the selfie with Steve Cram to prove it) let me say that you don't speak for the spectators that paid to see the race (I payed £121 for one of the better seats in the house). It is you who is brainwashed into thinking the only race that is interesting is the one that is fast. Let me guess - you like NASCAR as well... just a bunch of cars going as fast as they can around an oval with no tactics. There were no tactics in Kiprop's Monaco race. Just fast. But if someone hid the clock from you, you'd never be able to tell the difference between a 3:26 and a 3:33... And you apparently assume that if someone is not running as fast as they can at all times that somehow they're not trying. These days, there are very few athletes that are head and shoulders above the rest... and unless you're miles ahead of the competition, you need to be prepared to run a tactical race - whatever those tactics may be. Sometimes that means sit and kick... sometimes it is cat-and-mouse, sometimes it's just fast. Nonetheless, it just so happens that right now Kiprop is in supreme condition - so good that he can run a rabbited 3:26 in Monaco and then come to London a short time later, toy with a world class field and then give them a classroom demonstration of his supreme talent on the last lap as if they were boys. Taken as a whole, in its entire context, Kiprop's current fitness level is a living masterpiece right now and a pleasure to witness.

Zzzzzzz, of course he had tactics, OMG, that's what people do when racing. Kippy came, Kippy had tactics, Kippy tripped and Kippy still won. Enough of this nonsense, have a good evening.
If someone like Souleiman or Centro, both of whom ran poor closing splits, had the balls to go all out at the point when Kiprop drifted to the back of the field, he wouldn't have caught them. That's what his rivals can get out of the race and take away from that meet.
Haven't seen Kiplagat run in a couple of weeks, but he is still a big danger to Kiprop in any sort of race, if in top form.
Kiprop has done this sort of thing before- drift off the pace and relied on his finishing speed to get round the field on the last lap, and sometimes it hasn't worked. He cannot afford to take such liberties and show disrespect to the others in a world final, no matter if he's in 3:26 shape. Pride comes before a fall.
