if you are able to take signs, i'd have something positive written on one side (like "go rupp!") so that you can show that side to the ushers as you walk in. also, if you're in the stands, the crowd behind you (as well as the ushers/officials) won't start yelling at you (or kick you out) because they think you're rooting on their boys/ladies. little do they know you got something up your sleeve.
as someone who took signs to WWE back in the day, they do check. they took my sign away because i used my school's logo on the sign which was shouting out my teammates. so, i'd avoid using the nike logo.
all that said, i've never seen signs at a track meet and i'm thinking they'll say you can't take them in because it will obstruct people's views.
i did yell to regina jacobs back in the day as she was taking a victory lap after winning the USA 1500m: "race in europe (where you'll get tested)!" also chanted "E-P-O! E-P-O!" as lance armstrong ran by at the 2007 NYC marathon.
