It's absurd that a person with a penis is allowed to usethe women's locker room.

Either have a unisex locker room or keep people in the locker rooms based on their genitalia, not how they self-identify. If I self-identify as black (Robert Johnson was a famous blues singer), can I apply for minority contracts or get affirmative action for college? Of course not.

I feel great sympathy for transgender people. It can't be easy. But this just makes no sense. You are worried about how the transgender person feels so you let them into the women's locker room and upset way more people. Don't the feeligns of the non-transgender count?

If planet fitness feels so strongly about this, hell just have one locker room and see how that impacts membership.

The basic premise of having separate men's and women's locker rooms is presumably so that naked men aren't seen by and don't see naked women and naked women aren't seen by and don't see naked men. You can argue that that's stupid and in theory we should all be like the Space Marines in Starship Troopers:

However, that's not the way society actually is. Women, in particular, don't want to be naked in front of strange men or to see strange men naked. The idea that if you "identify" as a woman, then you have changed categories into a woman for purposes of men's and women's locker rooms doesn't change the reality for most women because no one can tell how you "identify" in your mind - they can only see that you appear to be a man. And most women don't want strange men to see them naked or for strange men to be naked in front of them.

Assuming we are going to continue to have locker rooms segregated by sex, the real solution is to have a third "family" or unisex locker room where sex segregation doesn't apply.

You have no idea who you are sharing the locker room with. Just because some guy has the same plumbing equipment as you doesn't mean he is any less or more of a threat to you than someone with different equipment. Thanks for that. After taking your advice, I've decided that even though I appear to be a white dude in his 40s, I actually FEEL like a black 12 yr old girl. The local middle school better damn sure not give me any grief when I show up for the 1st day of 7th grade & use the girl's room to pee, and dress out in the girl's locker room.

Maybe you need to find a locker room that has the same written policies and procedures that Planet Fitness has Then you can change in the woman's locker room and the people who signed the agreement when they join the same gym as you won't have a leg to stand on if they don't like you there. Apparently, it is all about you and the way you feel.

Many women and men wouldn't be comfortable sharing a locker room with someone of the same sex who is gay either if they knew who was gay and who wasn't. Planet Fitness chose this as their policy. Members agree to it when they join the gym. This lady created a commotion, several times, was warned, and didn't listen. If other gyms don't want transgendered people to go to their non biological locker room, that is their choice. Planet Fitness wasn't hiding anything. Apparently no one else cared but this loud mouth.

I believe the term was small print that most people don't read and most would believe it wouldn't happen, it actually won't happen to 99% of PF members, this was one incident and it wasn't even a member, it was a guest of a member. She was surprised.

The problem is many states are enacting maybe already have laws that would require the same thing everywhere. I think PF should be able to do this if they want, but I don't like the idea of it being imposed on everyone. Leave this up to busineses to use some judgement like the person who posted here that worked for a gym and it we can work it out, but make it a law and it will get mis-used. Then they can work it out, taking their customers in mind.

Maybe this woman should have handled this situation better, but that doesn't change the reality that Planet Fitness' policy here is just plain wrong. This transgendered person's rights for comfort shouldn't trump other folks rights for comfort. Bottom line, Planet Fitness needs to find a better solution here.

Telling this women she wasn't allowed to tell other women their was an unwanted "member" in the women's locker-room is similar to the U of Minn not reporting details of suspected criminals to the university students.
