What about in the 800m, if I lose those last 5 pounds of fat (I'm already super fit), could that lead to a whole second off of my 800 PR?

Just for the heck of it, Post a PR and your height and weight. This is interesting.
5'11 134

5K: 15:55
8K: 26:25
I was a super chunky kid, started running late in HS, cut a ton of weight and really went after mileage, and then walked onto a college XC team with a 10:06 2 mile PR from track. Now, here we are. I feel and look rather lean, but I'm definitely tipping the scales for a runner. I find myself quite curious what I will run this Cross Country season as I'm going to try and cut down to at least 180.

Go for it.

I'm a collegiate runner and I'm 6'5 weighing a out 182. My body fat % was detailed at 6% in a bod pod. Do I have any ability to lose more healthy weight? I'm desperate. I would love to weigh 170-175

Male or female?
i don't understand why posters won't bother with simple search
it has been posted numerous times here that from physics, the worst time you can run losing just blubber & not propulsive mass
( worst time, as losing that blubber will increase your fitness making even quicker times as you have better fitness allied to blubberlessness )
the basic physics equation is comparable to carrying an all-over body-pack with weights sneakily added every all over - think Iron-Mans suit )
T2 = T1 * ( M2 / M1 )^(1/3)
Henry Rono in early '80s was running ~ 27-mid with 10 - 15 pounds overweight from boozing
someone offer a figure for Henry from just physics consideration alone ?
( no fitness improvements calculable )
if he was 10 - 15 lighter in a 27-mid
( ask malmo which exact race it was
it maya been '82 early beating Sal in 27'29.9
http://www.thegreatdistancerunners.de/HenryRono.html
)
i doubt that 27'29.9 was anywhere close to even pace, probably ~ 27'15 - 27'20 if properly paced to 5k, then solo last 5k
impress the board
use 27'15 - 27'20 for a "perfect" route-1 time paced only to 5k
with 10 - 15 blubber...

This.
I have observed this a ton, but I like to add:
"Over optimum weight, you lose two seconds per mile, per pound."
Ten pounds over optimum weight in a 10K = two minutes.
I think this works very well for people at average heights. Not sure about very tall or very short or very old/young:
20-55
5' - 5'8" W -- 5'5" - 6'2" M +/-.
All anecdotal.
Actually, I think Jack Daniels has studied this and come out in the 2 second ball park.
