BroJos like David Epstein and they like his book. I read about twenty pages of his book in B&N a few years ago. Epstein was a journalism major or something close. His science is weak and Epstein's statistical analysis is not rigorous. Since Epstein is not a mathematician schooled in rigorous statistics, since Epstein isn't a medical doctor, since Epstein isn't a proven athlete, since Epstein isn't a proven coach, since Epstein isn't a physiologist, since Epstein isn't a biologist, I put little to no weight in his writings regarding sport science.

I saw 1/2 of the Rochester, MN library devoted to a study on genetics. A white person is as likely to have the same genetics as a black person. That study was done in the early 2000s. Remember the famous Mayo Clinic is located in Rochester, MN.
The reason why the one region in Kenya has outstanding distance runners is because of culture and expectations.
NO one questions why the same high schools and colleges win year after year. It's often culture and expectations.

I'm taking a genetics course right now...
What I'm learning is:
- Behavior in humans is shaped due to genes and the environment
- Phenotypic and Genotypic variability in populations are due to: migration, sexual selection, mutations, genetic drift, and large populations
-In order to account for melanin production, you have to look at ancestry and what kind of lifestyle they lived to naturally develop that pigmentation
-There's also mitochondrial DNA from the mother, but I don't think it's inheritance plays a major role in athletes. Have you ever heard of a super baby being able to crawl for 30 minutes without taking a break?!
I think the potential of an athlete in the shorter distances is more genetic. As you increase the distance from 400 meters to marathon distance, the BMI goes from like 25.0 to 18.0. Optimal niches are found at BMIs for T&F events.
The possibility of developing muscles is genetic. But proteins in the human bodies all have the same purpose: to build or aid in contraction/movement.
So it's not all genetic as we have the ability to work on our own physiology.
