CPS needs to be disbanded. And go find real jobs. Instead of harassing parents and kids.

I never let my children go outside. There's a rapist, murderer, or black person around every corner waiting to harm them. They don't ride the bus because the driver might be a molester.

Same here. But there were a few kids who nobody hung out with because they always had to ask permission before going anywhere. Sheltered kids get isolated, so it actually harms them.

Guess what little brainless one, that puts you in pretty exclusive company. There are only about 200 million parents in the US. I happen to have more kids than you. I guess that makes me more of an expert (and probably a hero) than you.

Now, did you keep yours away from all friends, relatives, teachers and coaches? Because if you didn't then you ought to be ashamed of yourself exposing them to such risk factors (vastly greater than that stranger bogeyman)!

at 10yrs old, I was 5'11". I would push my little sister around in the stroller by myself (she was 3) and it probably just looked like I was a teenage (16?) dad out taking his kid for a walk. was never hassled. I also had a mustache at 12, so perhaps this 10yr old kid looks a heck of a lot older (and perhaps acts like it as well? sounds like the parents are instilling that in their kids) and is a responsible sibling?but yes, as every other reasonable person on this thread stated, the CPS is outta control and should be sued for this. go hassle the couch potatoes who are sucking our medical system dry.

We let our 6yr old walk with other 6yr olds and 10yr olds down to the bus stop. But its only about a 1/4 mile and other parents are at the bus stop and its in the neighborhood not crossing roads for a mile.

I would have to agree with CPS. Unless you have or have had a 6 yr old your opinion on this doesn't mean much.

A 6 year old needs more supervision than just a 10 yr old. I'm pretty sure I'm in the majority with this. 10 yr old is different. Heck I was out bike riding the town at 10.

Also....asbestos, lead paint and no seatbelts were once seen as safe in the 70s.

Also...laws are even more conservative. In most states you need adult supervision until 12-13.

Asbestos etc was always dangerous. Walking to school is no more dangerous now than it was back then.

Its ridiculous that someone aged 10 can't walk to school. I bet it has more to do with car culture people will drive half a mile to the shop instead of walking - unless you have work to go to afterwards you should walk your kids 1/2 mile to school but most people take the car esp I imagine America.

Yes agree with you there never made it to college went right to work out off high school as a laborer to support my wife and kids.

I'm okay with it I didn't turn out like a stuck up snob like alot of the greater then thou people on this sight.

It was a 10 yr old and 6 yr old and it the state of Maryland you have to be 13 to be unsupervised. That's why CPS was called out.

I don't think there is anything wrong with a 10 yr old walking to school. The issue here is the legality of it and the parents letting small children have free range and roam around unsupervised. This was obviously going on for a while. Some teacher or parent probably got ticked off and called.

And about the 10 and 3 yr old....if parents are letting a 10 yr old, I don't care how tall, take 3 yr old out in a stroller unsupervised. ..that's negligence or laziness on the parents.

There is a middle ground between being overprotective and underprotective, between being a disciplinarian and a buddy.

Allen -agree on a 10 year old boy but in today's world a girl 10 and younger needs to be protected from the freaks of the world.

Were I live there is a public park that I have been running in for almost 30 years it is well known that a certain area of the park is were flamers park and walk back into the field's to do what ever they do back there. There have been a few police stings there resulting in arrests.

Would any body feel safe letting there young kids walk alone near this area of a public park.

This is a good parent. Teach your kids independance. I walked a mile to school and back since I was in first grade and so did my kids (6 yrs old). With my kids, I just made sure they walked with friends - although, at times they would be late and walk on their own.

In NY and Philly, there are 11 year old kids everyday who navigate a complex system of buses and trains to go to schools many miles from their homes. There are many dangers in the world kids will face that we can't completely avoid with out stunting their development. The belief that there is a child molester lurking behind every tree is false.
