I've got a pair of the Adidas SL72 Karhuuu refers to. They feel fantastic and I'd happily race up to 5k in them. Light, low and very responsive. I'm a forefoot striker and truly believe that 30 years of constant injuries have been caused by all the cushioned shoes I've worn since a great pair of Reebok Aztec (the shoe Steve Jones trained in). Ever since I started wearing minimalist shoes a few years back I haven't had an injury. I don't see much difference between minimalist shoes and the shoes in the early seventies.
SL72 best running shoe ever for me.
But, I did my first work out every ( 2-mile jog, 20 x 440, 2-mile warm down) in Converse high tops.
About a week later I bought the leather Onosuka (sp) Cortez. Wore them without socks. The blisters on my heels were dime size and deep.
So the first month of my running career was more limping than running, did a lot of walking that first month.
I'm surprise I did not quite.
