I think that Allyson Felix had a provision in her first contract to cover her university tuition, so I wouldn't be surprised if there's one here, too. Everyone has to deal with the other three, and I think most contracts like hers will include some money for the coach.

Do you think that the people on the college track team are the only ones attending the university?

Doesn't matter what I think, only matters what Efraimson thinks. Put it this way though -- she could very likely break Cain's HS record next year. If she runs 4:03 that would put her in the mix for sure.

Cant set a new high school if you are not eligible to run for your high school team. That said, Efraimson is an awesome -- hope she sets a jr record.

This was the right move for her, but it's too bad that it had to be the right move.

It made sense for Cain to go pro, because she was better than all the collegians as a junior in high school.

Now Cain is going to go to Portland and it looks like Efraimson will go to Oregon St. Nothing wrong with those schools, but it sounds like both of these girls are very bright. No way no how would they have chosen Portland or OSU based on academics.

Also, what an awesome incredible collegiate rivalry those two could have had. It would have been reminiscent of the Ryan-Liquori match ups in the early 70s. The Dream Mile with Cain and Efraimson. Probably one at Stanford and the other at Villanova.

So they traded full scholarships from great universities for some cash. Not a lot of cash but some cash. And they get to wander the halls of some completely forgettable universities.

It's too bad those are the best choices for our top h.s. girls distance runners ever.

There is no difference in academics between those schools and whatever schools you are thinking of. The difference is resources and student body.

But she isn't fast enough to go out there and run away from the other women like an in-form Bekele. And she doesn't know how to race and win when she's not the class of the field. Therefore, she is going to get demolished out there.

Since the beginning of 2012 Mo Farah is ranked outside the top 10 in the 5000 and outside the top 30 in the 10000 on the performance lists. Yes, he is one of the fastest, but still he knows you don't drop your pants and have a c.ck-off if you want to win consistently; it takes tactics and fitness. Without both of those you can't be a pro very long. It's difficult to learn tactics when 80% of every field is more fit than you are. At that point you are just trying to limit the embarrassment because you know your friends and family are watching. It's an extremely difficult path to succeed on. I wish her the best, truly. I just can't believe her parents and coach are throwing her to the dogs. I'm sure they don't realize what they're doing and have good intentions.

She can't keep her sponsorship based on her looks alone for more than a couple years and her times don't merit it at this point.

Look at Ajee Wilson though. Being a pro and attending college as a normal student has clearly been the right choice for her. I don't feel bad for any of them. However it is a bit disappointing that someone who seems incredibly bright like Mary Cain would just settle for a college that won't challenge her.

Her current coach has some serious issues with control and narcissism. Relatively unstable bloke. A "divide and conquer" kind of person; not exactly a good example of a good person overall.
