The stupid things Larry Rawson said at NCAAs thread.

I have no doubt that Larry Rawson is an outstanding person. As an announcer, he is hard to listen to enjoyably. My strong advice to any entity broadcasting the meet is to get Dwight Stones to commentate on the field events and just patch into the meet announcers who are just outstanding. I would even be willing to give Jordan Kent a shot based on his work in the pre-meet interviewing. The gal doing the on the field interviews is even worse than Larry. Who did Ato Bolden piss off? He is good as is Dwight, but Larry gets the pilot seat. I just can't figure out the thinking behind the assignments. ESPN thinks Larry is the man and for the life of me, I cannot understand what gives them that impression.

That's not as stupid as you think it is.

At my school a teacher(and football coach) wanted to see how fast our kids ran 5k. They average about 5:20 per mile. So he figured he'd run a 400 on the track in 1:20 to see how it felt.

He ran like a 1:36 and almost died. He has a TRUE appreciation for the distance runners- as does our whole State Championship football team.

During the mens 800 today:

During the races Larry talks about background information way too much. We don't care about that Larry, we care about the race.

This is what bugs me. Build up a whole file of "things to say to fill air time" but don't prepare to call the race.

Case in point: in the last straight of the 800m it was painfully obvious that neither commentator had any idea who Ryan Schnulle and Keffri Neal were.

There are only eight guys in the race. Prepare to be sure you can recognize any of them. It should be Rawson's top job to help out the other guy on that. Rawson is the one who is supposed to be the expert.

It would have been even more embarrassing if McBride hadn't held on for the win.

Larry is good. The other dude knew nothing about track.
